parr -deee!!!
You'll be lucky if you do still have a job. It's important to be careful with P's and Q's around the big cheese, especially in times of economic trouble when you need to be constantly bringing home a paycheck. I get p*ssed when the boss gives me crap about taking off early once in a while even when all my work is done, all the extra detail gets done, and I have plenty of vacation hours left and I give them plenty of notice. But if they told me no, I would just grit my teeth and finish my shift. You really don't want to snap and get on their bad side, you need to keep making money.
Good luck with that Ronnie. I've been lucky through the years to have very reasonable bosses . . . or else I'm a total wuss.
Don't sweat it, man. I don't think something as simple as losing a job could keep you down. Hell, just go ahead and start looking for a new one even if you haven't lost your old one. Maybe you'll find something better.

He's been a real ass lately. I been at this job 25 years. I wanted four lousy hours off. I work every day from 8 to 7. Yeah...I f**ked up. :bluesad:
25 years and the guy is arguing about four hours?
You work 11 hour days?
Did you get fired?
I'd be really p**sed if I need a few hours off after working more then 40 in a week and the boss says I couldn't. Bosses feel they have workers by the throat nowadays with the economy the way it is. And they do. But, they shouldn't. If someone is willing to work 11 hour shifts, a boss should feel indebted to them. Especially ones with long time service. It's the fundamental difference between right and wrong.
Depending on labor laws (and these often vary between professions), the boss might not have a good position with what went on. At the least, a boss who refuses to let someone off for four hours, who already works forty+ hours a week, probably doesn't want the public attention that this could cause.
Hope that you and the boss work things out. My advice would be to apologize for your reaction, but tell him why you felt so angry when he said no. From what you've said, it sounds like he needs to apologize as well.
Generally employers can require employees to work reasonable amounts of overtime (if they pay time and a half). If you have a union contract obviously that changes.
It's been six days, RC... what happened? Hope you kept the job.
I want to know what happened too! I'd be surprised if you really did lose your job. Working in HR, I've heard of people getting away with much worse.
