I was looking in the documentary section of netflix. Of course, I was looking at the very end of the section, somewhere past stuff about various national parks and types of missiles was this. I hate to say it but I kind of liked it.
This guy seems to be a colorful/ annoying fixture at a bar in Pittsburgh called the Smiling Moose. He claims to be a tai chi master that has been around the world and obviously is not and has not. His "form" looks like no traditional form I've ever seen and when discussing where he went in the middle east he puts Turkey near the West Bank and decries all the "nuclear power facilities" of which there are none. No matter.
He does the fake tai chi to get up his "chi" and he lets it out by doing the yelling you see in the video, which he claims are like beyond loud and could be used as a weapon even though he does it in rooms of people and no one is hurt in any way. He would be a good hardcore singer but it's not amazingly loud. He has several different ridiculous yells.
The worst part is definitely his prattling on about how great he is. He does it like a dozen times and you're like "I want to kill this guy". At the same time, he is sort of funny and audacious and kind of won me over in the end. I liked especially when he rounded up some local rocker chicks from the bar to be his "tai chi girls" and taught them his nonsensical fruity moves and they all did the yelling. They don't get too into his non chi master persona life but there are allusions to a failed marriage, a terrible accident at some point, and a childhood spent in Georgia where he claims he was always very great and very loud.
The production is appropriately low budget and low key. Though an hour long the guy is so irritating it feels much longer. It's like an entertaining 10 minute thing on current tv dragged out for an hour.
