Title: The Buffer Seat
Post by: claws on January 09, 2011, 04:17:59 PM
I read about this at another message board. The Buffer Seat a.k.a. The Gay Seat is the empty seat between two male friends at the cinema.
Apparently if you go with your friend to watch a movie at the theater, it makes you look gay when sitting together. You look less gay when there is an empty seat between you guys.

:bouncegiggle:

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, but I need to ask: Do you feel gay going with your male friend to watch a movie? If so, do you use "The Buffer Seat" ?

My friend and I used to go all the time and never used the buffer seat.  How else could we hold hands during the movie?   :teddyr:  Seriously, I don't know when two guys hanging out together somewhere=gay couple.  In the past I would usually be seen with one friend because I hated groups. Nowadays that would spurn gay rumors which to me is just odd. Whatever, it seems women flock to gay guys anyhow so perhaps it would pay off if I needed it to.

I have never used a buffer seat.  I think people who need to prove they are not gay really need to take a step back and assess their priorities.

I didn't do the buffer seat when I was younger, but as I've gotten older and larger, I DO need my elbow room!  Especially when I go to the movies with my friend Ray, who is even bigger than I am!

I do, however, keep a buffer urinal between me and other males in the bathroom at all times . . . ever since that incident in the Philippines . . . :buggedout:

It was a frat guy thing... in my college the frat guys would always have the "I'm not Gay" Seat (thats what we called it).

Not really an issue when going to the movies with the family, but I've always used the buffer seat whenever possible. Two guys sitting directly beside each other is a pretty tight fit, even in the best theatre seats. Your shoulders are pressed together, and you're fighting over one armrest.

Sitting with a wife or a date, one of you can always put an arm around the other, which solves the problem. I'm guessing any two guys who are actually gay will be sitting like that too. The two guys who are shoulder-to-shoulder, arms crossed and leaning at an awkward angle are not going to look gay, no matter how close their seats are.

Yes, this is very silly. What's next. Will the WBC be picketing outside theatres were two male friends were spotted sitting next to each other?

Geez.

I've never used the buffer seat but I'm a slender guy and so are my friends.

So it's gay when two guys sit next to each other, but not when two girls do? The heck?
