Title: New Batman villians: Bane & Catwoman
Post by: KYGOTC on January 21, 2011, 01:25:58 PM
The antagonists for the 2012 Batman movie have been anounced.

CATWOMAN (boo! hiss!)

and BANE! (huzzah!)

Your thoughts?

I thought Nolan was vehemently against using already used villains for Batman-reboot 3 :/ . Still, those are very appropriate choices considering the roles they play in canon. I just hope Chris keeps the quality up so he doesn't fall into the usual "he was once a promising director" traps, nor the "third superhero film always sucks" trap.

Anne Hathaway was named as Catwoman. While I love me some Hathaway as much as the next guy, I don't know if she'd be a great Catwoman. She doesn't seem "slinky" enough. On the other hand, I though Heath Ledger was a terrible choice for the Joker until I actually saw the movie. Hopefully Nolan will be able to coax the Cat out of Anne. Tom Hardy is playing Bane. THis is all according to the IMDB.

Hathaway as Catwoman is perfectly okay with me, but then Hathaway as King Arthur would be okay with me.

Hathaway and Hardy both seem wrong for the respective roles.  Seeing as Nolan has difficulty doing anything worthwhile with female characters, I'd rather they had just adapted the "Knightfall" storyline and left Catwoman out of it.

Not that I'll be seeing The Dark Knight Rises, anyway.  Batman Begins was freaking HORRIBLE.  The Dark Knight was much better but still had some very serious problems keeping me from enjoying it much.  I feel safe skipping any further Batman movies with Nolan in the writer/director chair.

Oh, and I wish they had called the third one 3atman.  See, the "3" is taking the place of the "B", and it totally works because "3" and "B" look similar.  Brilliant, eh?

THANK YOU! I HATE it when movies have love intrests for the protagonist just for the sake of having a love intrest. its BOGUS!! Batman does NOT NEED A SQUEEZE!!!

He doesn't need one, but with Cat I think it'd bring in an interesting dynamic, and one that could actually be handled intelligently enough to bring Nolan's reboots to a satisfying conclusion.

I really hope the maintain the focus on Bane and not Catwoman which I know they'll frig up.  I really could care less about Catwoman in the character department compared to Bane.

Im not a huge fan of Catwoman but I think Hathaway is a brilliantly done casting call.
Nolan is a great writer/director.

I might add they actually specify that Hathaway plays Selina Kyle.  I mean, I'd be shocked if Kyle's alter-ego Catwoman wasn't in it, but ya never know - remember this?

It might also be a late game transformation, only in the final act or something.

I loved "Batman Begins" AND "Dark Knight". I KNOW I'm going to like this new one. Still questioning the choice of Anne Hathaway as "Catwoman", though. It's an odd choice.

I thought Batman Begins was at best average and I still haven't been able to watch The Dark Knight all the way through (the only movie in my life I've ever had so much trouble finishing and I've sat through Monster a Go-Go) as I was very disappointed by what I have seen of it so far...

Nolan has horribly disappointed me twice already with his Batman movies.  He's not getting a third shot from me.

Are you actually saying The Dark Knight is as troubling to watch as Monster A-Go Go?  Having seen both movies and having both in my Top 10 Best & Worst list (MAGG is number 1 on the worst of list), I demand an explaintation!

I'd rather watch Monster A Go-Go than either of the Nolan Batman movies.  At least MAGG only makes me suffer for about an hour.

Dark Knight feels less like a Batman movie than it does a Die Hard movie starring Batman as Bruce Willis.

At least Monster A-Go-Go felt like a monster movie.

Then came the ending which makes no sense and says you weren't watching a monster movie  (Remember, there was no monster!).  I love a good movie that messes with your mind and makes you think, but that mind screw felt more like a slap across the face with a crowbar.

I'm still waiting for the world to realise its mistake in thinking Striptease was awful.
When, as I'm sure we all know, its a masterpiece of cinema.  :teddyr:

Actually I was just pointing out that I couldn't finish The Dark Knight (I know I will eventually) and I didn't have any problem finishing any other film will..ever.

I watched it once but I absolutely cannot sit through it a second time.

Sure the end of Monster a Go-go insults your intelligence, but the BEGINNING of Dark Knight insults it.    Nobody noticed a school bus without any kids on it pulls out of the side of a bank it's ran into and follows the other bus while still shedding concrete?
