Does anyone know of sites that let you download free anti-virus software and use it on a PC that doesn't have Internet, like the one I have at home?
if you aren't connected to the internet you shouldn't have that much issue with virii

Thanks, 100Nights: the thing is, I do take work home a lot on my memory stick / flash drive and I would like some sort of protection at home. The only thing I have for viruses at home right now is Vitamin C.
ah got it...
then because of the ever changing nature of virii, without regular updates to the protection software it quickly becomes dated.
This unfortunately is almost always results in web updates. I can find one that does not I will be sure to pass it along.
...and to provide an actual answer for you:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php) and check out this page (http://www.mytechguide.org/2010/02/25/how-to-manually-download-definition-updates-for-malwarebytes-anti-malware/) for information on manually updating the definitions.
Portable Anti-Malware Apps (http://www.pendriveapps.com/software/portable-antispyware-malware/) which can be run from a usb flash drive or copied to your hard drive and run from there.
McAfee Stinger Standalone AV (http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=stinger)
AntiVir and other free anti-virus, anti-spyware tools also have manual definition updates you can download from their sites to update update your anti-virus offline; handy for when a computer is infected and cannot update online.
I used PC Cillin,a nd they would provide a CD version for anominal fee. The killer is that you can't easily update.
Hmmm. Virii, plural of virus. So does that mean that anti-virus service only protects against one virus?
Hmmm.
I think I'll start my very gimmicky "anti-virii" service now. Slogan:
"Don't settle for virus protection, get Virii protection with Virii Be Gone."

I didn't bother to research, I just accepted that it followed the rule of most of the latin-based English words that end in "us."
In other words, a feeble attempt at humor.
You get any "virii" just send BILLY MUMY over: "You be dead!!"

The machine at work is the one that needs protection, because it's the one that's exposed. Assuming its antivirus is working properly, any files you copy from it should be safe.
Ahh, the wirk kompoota wir nothin g kan go worng.
At work we have Kapersky anti-virus and a few other things.
