Title: STAR CRYSTAL (1986)
Post by: The Burgomaster on February 22, 2011, 01:49:11 PM
I bought this excellent quality DVD-R from Twisted Anger.

This is a cheap English-language sci-fi flick that's every bit as bad as the similar Italian movies that came out in the post STAR WARS years.

The crewmembers of a spaceship ("it's only a model,"  "shhhh") are terrorized by an alien hiding in the passageways (shades of ALIEN . . . and plenty of its predecessors including IT!THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE).  This movie would have been more satisfying if the creature had killed the entire irritating crew instead of leaving some lucky survivors.

Everything about this movie is the pits, from the acting to the sets to the special effects.  The creature looks like a semi-transparent snail with an orange light inside it.  And the ending is so ridiculous and sappy you may not believe it no matter how many terrible movies you've seen.

This one makes STAR CRASH look like an all-time sci-fi classic.  At least STAR CRASH had some fun behind the cheese.  This one is just boring cheese.

I assume its a port from the excellent quality Anchor Bay DVD (which is 16x9 Widescreen)

This movie stinks but I own it for nostalgic reasons. Reminds me of the good old days of video rentals.

Possibly.  It's a sharp, clear widescreen transfer (and of course there are no Anchor Bay markings anywhere in site!)  Twisted Anger ships out of Canada and uses a lot of imports for its source material (the movies come in various languages with various subtitles).  One of the great things about buying these DVD-Rs from various sources is you might get an Italian movie, dubbed in English, with Greek subtitles, or a Spanish movie dubbed in German with English subtitles or some other bizarre combination.  STAR CRYSTAL is just plain old English.
