Title: Are You Crafty?
Post by: Mr. DS on February 28, 2011, 11:47:40 AM
Just wondering if anyone has any talents in the realm of crafts.  I actually have no talents in that realm.   :bouncegiggle:  I keep kind of a simple scrapbook regarding my accomplishments/articles about me at work but nothing too artsy.

My wife runs a creative bow making service online.  She also makes other things revolving around fashions for little girls.

So how about you?  Do you do any kind of crafts?  If so, what kind?

I'm a moderately good Christmas present wrapper.  That, you know...involves bows and stuff.

This is about as crafty as I get.

Every once in a while I get inventive, but it's not a regular hobby of mine.

I like crafts and the like. I'm perfectly capable of that kind of thing. Alas, I just don't have the time for it. I would love to get into woodworking, and one day plan to build my own bar in the house. I would also love to be able to make my own furniture. Someday.

Damn.  I was looking for someone to build me a bar 6 years ago.  I ended up buying a nice one at Jordan's Furniture.  It's "J" shaped and seats 6 people comfortably.  The back of the bar has a rack for hanging wine glasses, several drawers and shelves, a lazy-susan under the counter so you can put your liquor bottles on it and spin it around to get the one you want, and a couple of metal trays that I usually fill up with ice and then stick beer bottles in to keep them cold.  I would have gladly asked you to build me a bar instead.

Somewhat.  I've done leatherwork, braid stuff, build simple things like horse jumps, bake gingerbread houses and I make...things...out of boxboard and recycled materials (mainly as props for plays and Halloween costumes).  I used to like to paint and sketch a bit but have not had time for that in years.

I'm crafty, all right.  I can't be trusted at all    :tongueout:

Seriously, though, I'm pretty crafty.  I knit and sew and I will be trying my hand at painting in the coming months.  I've even been thinking of taking an online course in interior design.

Sometimes I make trouble. Does that count as crafty?  :teddyr:

I guess you'd call me crafty. I make jewelry, have done some woodwork (nothing really grand, but the stuff I made is still being used), and made some cheesy movie props for some of my & my friends' cheesy movies. I like making things, though I don't always have the time, especially now, as I just started a new job.

I guess I'm kinda crafty.  Years ago I did a lot of sketching and painting.  In later years, with kids and pets, I just didn't have the time. I would like to get into it now though. I've even thought about taking a watercolor painting class.

Right now, my hobby is my sony cybershot H55 digital camera.  It's a point and shoot, but takes very good pics.  I'm into taking pics of flowers, wildlife, etc. I have them in a Flickr account and actually get views. woo hoo!  :teddyr:

F Yeah I'm crafty!  I craft myself into trouble though.  I've been up til wee hours of the morning making cards and invitations.. grumpy and complaining about having to do it when it was my great idea to begin with.  But when it's all done, I feel so accomplished!  My husband helps out too, he's a drafter so he's really good at making measurements and drawing lines and cutting stuff... well I am too, but I make him do it because he's supposed to be a professional.  We made a really nice window bench in my mom's house and I've been wanting to make one for ours since.  I can draw too.. I actually made a pretty good bit of money drawing portraits for people after high school.  Usually it was just someone's kids, which is really stressful because I feel so much pressure drawing something so personal, but a few people wanted drawings of celebrities.  I even got to draw Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck!

Lately I've just been into decorating and creative baking like Gingerbread Houses and stupid cupcakes.

I recently finished my daughters room and it turned out pretty good!  I did some random stencilling in one corner, made her windows fancy since the view isn't much:

I put glitter on my bathroom walls and BLOOD on the guest room walls a few years ago:

And this is last year's gingerbread house.. kind of hastily done and not my best, but it's still cute!  And no, I didn't make Yukon Cornelius, my uncle added him in.

You might call me "crafty".  I'm into "circuit bending".  That's taking battery operated toys, games, or anything else that's electronic and makes a sound, and short circuiting them in various ways to turn them into experimental musical (non-musical, maybe noise generating) instruments.
