Title: King Kong vs Godzilla Remake?
Post by: Robocop on April 20, 2011, 08:05:11 PM
Would anybody like to see Toho have another crack at King Kong vs Godzilla? I know its not only logically impossible given that to be a fair fight they'd have to upscale Kong and give him a significant advantage to be able to compete with the big G (just like what they did in the original 62 film); but they've both come such a long way and its doubtful Toho could ever re-claim the rights to use Kong's image again.

Just think though, it could be a really entertaining match up. The original is still enjoyable, but with a bigger budget and obviously a SPX upgrade, it could be one of the most epic duels in history.

There is no way it could ever be a 'serious film' but hell maybe the most expensive 'B-Movie ever made?'

I would love to see a remake as I'm not a huge fan of the 1962 version.

I'm still waiting for Godzilla vs. Gamera... dream come true!

I'd like to see Robot Kong vs. MechaGodzilla as well. That would be BAD A$$!

I Love King Kong and Godzilla, but I believe KKvsG to be a so-so movie. I'd rather see Godzilla vs Gamera.

MechaGodzilla would roast Robot Kong in 20 seconds, wouldn't be much of a fight.

Uh, should I point out that king kong was like 40-60' tall, at most, and godzilla was like 250-300' tall, according to the original movie that cited his height at at least 80 meters?

No?

Ok, forget it then...

You don't know the facts so I'm tipping you haven't seen the original King Kong vs Godzilla? It was produced by Toho in 1962 and in order for it to be a competive contest they made Kong roughly the same size as Godzilla (although the version of the big G in this movie was slightly smaller and weaker compared to the original bigger and stronger 1954 version.)

So a remake would obviously replicate that logic to make it a fair fight.

Surely a suitably mad scientist could breed the two species together.

@Robocop, Not a problem, actually I'm a crazed MechaGodzilla fan.

IMO, the 1975 (MG2/Katsura) model is much more superior then 70's Godzilla.

I don't know about this fight though, tough to call. MechaGodzilla (Kiryu/Azusa) vs. FinalWars Godzilla.

If done by Toho, I'd love to see it (Kong vs. Godzilla II). Kind of doubt rights will ever allow it though.

I still want to see Kronos vs. Godzilla myself....

I wonder what the Japanese would use to create a modernized vision between the two monster icons. Surely if they had a decent sized budget to work with they'd go with CGI instead of the traditional man-in-suit method they've been using for all Godzilla flicks (yes, even the most recent ones.)

How about PreGodzilla 1944 vs. King Kong 1976. I wanna see THAT!

Both Monsters are about the same size... although I think Kong may have the advantage...

For those that don't know, that's Godzilla before the Bikini H-Bomb test. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991).

Thoughts?

Boo to anything but the suitmation technique!! Some CGI cleverly mixed with it might work though...

I haven't seen the 1991 version of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, but I have heard about the pre Godzilla dinosaur mythology which I think is a really interesting concept. Kong from 1976 may of been the biggest of all 3 main films, but I don't think he was the strongest. He struggled with that giant snake, where as Kong 33 and Kong 05 handled multiple dinosaurs (including T-Rexs) without breaking a sweat.

I'm not a fan of CGI, but even the recent Godzilla flicks could use with a upgrade. The FX aren't exactly top of the line, and they did use CGI in Final Wars to create Zilla (from the 1998 U.S remake) which didn't look that great either.

I'm not sure they would.  Man-in-rubber suit is kind of a tradition with these things and Japan is big on their traditions.

If they did do this movie, I just hope they wouldn't take a cue from the latest King Kong remake.  The cuter, more relatable Kong just never worked as well for me.
