The Classic Horror board is reporting some truly tragic news (http://monsterkidclassichorrorforum.yuku.com/topic/37561/Yvette-Vickers-shocking-end?page=1) about the unverified death of 50's B-movie sex symbol/bad girl Yvette Vickers (ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES, ATTACK OF THE FIFTY-FOOT WOMAN). This hasn't been officially reported and hopefully will turn out to be just a rumor.
Sorry to say, the bizarre report of Vickers' death (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/05/early-playboy-playmate-and-b-movie-acress-yvette-vickers-found-dead-in-benedict-canyon.html) are true.

Sad news. Good night, YVETTE.
Terrible. I read an interview with her in a Psychotronic mag a few years back. A wonderful actress. RIP. :bluesad:

The writers' comments of finding Ms Vickers in a "mummified state" are horrifying IMO. :buggedout:

Mummified body of former Playboy playmate Yvette Vickers found in her Benedict Canyon home
May 2, 2011 | 2:21 pm
Vickers Yvette Vickers, an early Playboy playmate whose credits as a B-movie actress included such cult films as "Attack of the 50-Foot Woman" and "Attack of the Giant Leeches," was found dead last week at her Benedict Canyon home. Her body appears to have gone undiscovered for months, police said.
Vickers, 82, had not been seen for a long time. A neighbor discovered her body in an upstairs room of her Westwanda Drive home on April 27. Its mummified state suggests she could have been dead for close to a year, police said.
The official cause of death will by determined by the Los Angeles county coroner's office, but police said they saw no sign of foul play.

How did the body mummify itself ?
Surely there was someone else involved.
whether she was Mummified or not, thats still a sad way to go. The fact it takes a year for anyone to see if your alive.

Dessication in the dry desert are along with limited decaying agents (flies, worms, etc) would lead to mummification.
It's not uncommon.
The term is referring to a state of relative preservation, not wrapped in bandages and such.

A chilling aspect of automated payments...? It sounds as though the only person who reasonably might have been expected to catch on that something was amiss was the postman. :buggedout: There's a movie in that somewhere.
This story has made the leap to the major networks. I saw it mentioned on NBC this morning.

I'm glad you cleared that up, because I was also confused.

Good point,
Ulthar. Did anybody read the article? She was in Benedict Canyon... The body was near a space heater that was still running... I think that helped dry her out...

Jeez.....
:bluesad: So sorry to learn of this. Terrible end for such a stunning starlet B-movie queen. She certainly made Attack of the 50 Foot Woman and Attack of the Giant Leeches more entertaining than they would have been without her. R.I.P.
