So...I only know the MMC from the early '90s years with Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
I grew up with reruns of the original series on local TV at 3:30. Even as a kid I thought it was bland, corny, boring, and worse, they hardly ever seem to show any animated stuff.
Naturally, we were addicted and didn't miss an episode. I think Unca Walt had some kind of mind control ray built into the signal.
I grew up watching reruns of the original MMC in the mid-70's. I remember my older sisters making a big deal out of the fact that they were starting to rerun them on a regular basis, and I definately got into them. I think the reruns in the mid-70's led to the revival of the show in the late 70's, which would include Lisa Welchel from The Facts of Life as a mouskateer. I did watch some of that revival, but didn't make it far as I was starting to get obssessed with girls and KISS by that time and was losing interest.
To my dismay my older brother and sister, cynics though they were, needed to watch it every afternoon...the reruns... I remember them exactly as Raffine described them, but I wasn't no devotee... Except maybe when the mini-program "Annette" came on.

Annette was a wet dream for many young American lads.

I never knew she had a singing career.

I'll buy that. I admit being taken a by her too. And I also remember being a bit taken with the one girl in the 70's reboot of The New Mickey Mouse Club...her name was Nina if I remember right. She was kinda cute.

Didn't you see her singing on all those beach party movies with Frankie Avalon????
We had some episodes on video tape. If I remember correctly, it was a bit like ZOOM.
We used to watch it in reruns....whenever we saw it over at our cousins' house our cousin Randy would march through the livingroom yelling,"D-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-O-S-E! Dickey Moose,Dickey Moose...". Ah,fond childhood memories. :teddyr:

It was really very little like
ZOOM.
I recall the old re-runs.
I'm with Raffine and Hallows on this.
I just wanted to slap them all,and scream-"WAKE UP!"
It was the equivelant of tasteless Wonderbread toast with margarine.
I'll take a garlic and onion bagel with crunchy peanut butter anyday.

Yeah, my memory is probably bad. All I remember is that The Mickey Mouse Club featured a bunch of kids in a doing stuff studio, and they were interrupted by documentary shorts. Zoom also featured kids in a studio being interrupted by shorts, so that's where the comparison came in.
Interesting note: The TV show wasn't the first incarnation of The Mickey Mouse Club; the first version was made for theaters as a way to market their cartoons.

We were there, every day.
"Come along
And bring the bong
And join the family-
M-I-C-K-E-Y....J-O-I-N-T!
Mickey Joint!
Mickey Joint!
Forever let us hold a better high, high, high, HIGH!"
