I have no idea how the Grinch movie was #1 in any year.
The Grinch movie...hmmmm...I think people often flock to a seasonal movie because no matter what the content its, you know, seasonal. For me its not as insanely bad as people make it out to be. Still, I think the world would have been fine without it.
I did see Xmen in the theater and I think Scary Movie.

I've seen Crouching Tiger, Gladiator and Charlie's Angels. I might possibly have seen Mission Impossible 2, can't remember.
Cast Away, Gladiator and Traffic are good, the rest are awful for me. I haven't seen every film the whole way through, but I saw enough to stay the hell away, left in utter puzzlement that people PAY to see crap like Charlies Angels??
Crouching Tiger was great.

I only took the first 10 films from each year in the decade, but . . .
The '80's
Seen 25 or 25%. Liked 13 or 52%
The '90's
Seen 27 or 27%. Or about the same as the '80's. The difference is that I liked 20 or about 74%. Thus the '90's were a much better decade for films for me, then the '80's.
Though, both decades pale next to any of the previous decades, except for--perhaps--the '70's. The '30's thru the '60's. General audiences and I saw the same films and liked the same films. It was in the '70's that there was a divergence of opinion. I started watching fewer of the films that the general audience watched, and if I saw one of the films, I was less likely to like it, than the general audience.
I was thinking 2000 was a pretty crappy year in terms of good movies. Looking at the list above I guess I was right.
