I got to thinking today about what songs my parents (mostly my mother) gave me crap about whenever I listened to them. I recall my brother playing songs like George Michael's "I Want Your Sex" and Frankie Goes To Hollywood "Relax". I really as an 8 year old didn't know what these were about but I liked their beat. I recall her going ballistic on my brother when he'd play the songs when I was in hearing distance.
I recall back in high school when Closer came out by NIN. She friggin' hated when I played that song.
I don't remember my parents ever giving me crap about songs . . . unless I played the stereo too loud.
My mum used to hate me playing this years ago, especially when she had people round. :teddyr:

My mother "loves" how I messed with her cell phone to make this her ring tone. :D

I was about 3 or 4 years old, thus, my love of this song would've driven anybody crazy.

Never really liked this one, but it was all over the radio & every compilation out there, which bugged the heck out of my Mom.

yep, it's true.
It was about this time, I discovered the practicality of headphones, which for some reason, only made my parents angrier.

For some reason, I never gave this group enough credit for being as "Punk" as they were. I was being raised to be wary of people who wore denim. It backfired, of course...
"Kim" by Eminem. Definitely Not Safe for Work.

Pretty much this one...but really they didn't like the band at all at the time. Funny enough years later they didn't seem to mind them as much at all...

Hair Of The Dog by Nazareth. Both parents hated it for 2 reasons: 1. the bass would just thump through the house, even turned down to a reasonable level, and 2. The chorus! "Now you're messing with...A SON OF A B!TCH!!"
I still love that song, but I use headphones. Otherwise, my neighbors would be gunning for me.
My father hated the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I wasn't a big fan but liked a few of their songs here and there. He saw them on some award show doing some odd homoerotic stuff and the rest was history.
Actually it was the other way around in our family. We kids would always give our parents crap about their music, especially our father who would blast cringe inducing C&W songs in the car.
Other than dad our parents never cared about our music. They would only b***h when played too loud.
My mother used to throw an absolute FIT any time she heard John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" playing. "Do you HEAR that??? He said HIGH! That's about GETTING HIGH!!! People don't know that! It's awful! He's singing about SMOKING MARIJUANA!!!" She was totally disgusted that it got airtime on radio. She's a special woman.
(And people think I am upright! :bouncegiggle: )
