Since it looks like The Dallas Mavs Vs. Miami Heat are going to be in the finals, who do you think will win the finals this year?
On one hand I want Mavs to win since this is probably their last chance, but I also want The Heat to win because of all the Lebron haters. Overall I pick the mavs to take it
Mariners are only 3 games back in the AL.
And don't forget Mumbai Indians 148 for 6 (Blizzard 51, Tendulkar 36, Kallis 2-18, Shakib 2-24) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 147 for 7 (ten Doeschate 70*, Munaf 3-27) by four wickets!!

As an unashamed LeBron hater I want the Mavs to win.
I don't just hate LeBron either, but I always root against the team of mercenaries who try to buy a championship---see the Yankees.
I agree with you Rev.
The Red Sox bought a team of mercenaries . . . and they're finally playing some good baseball. Go Sox!
My local DBacks are not a great team, but they are playing some serious ball lately. Lot's of close games that they are winning. I don't know how long it will last, but they are now suddenly in 2nd place in the NL West and continuing to gain. They've suddenly become downright scrappy and fun to watch.
Mike Brown is hired as new coach of LA Lakers (http://lakersblog.latimes.com/lakersblog/2011/05/mike-brown-post.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+latimes%2FYzIr+(Lakers+Blog))
I dont know what it is, but I have always hated The Lakers. I leaped out of my chair in joy when the Mavs knocked them out of the playoffs.
I've been a Mavs fan for 20 years. Lakers, Bulls, I don't care . . . GO DIRK!!!!!!!!! :bouncegiggle:
Right now, I'm digging the Philadelphia Phillies.
Was a huge fan as a kid, kinda fell out of it during the losing seasons, and restarted watching back in high school.
I usually head down to the stadium several times a season for some games. Never a dull moment.
Generally I only follow baseball, hockey and football. Beyond that, I'm a big fan of what falls into the category of 'alternative/X-Games" styled sports like Skateboarding, BMX and the like.
Dirk is definitely on the top 10 list IMO for best player to never win a title. I really hope he gets it this year.

Does anyone consider NASCAR a sport around here?
I don't see it but apparently it's huge or something.

Yeah, I'll put him up there with Karl Malone. I dig his one legged shots.

As I was saying in another thread, I just dont see whats so entertaining about watching cars go around in a circle for three hours. I guess you could call Nascar a sport, but the same thing can be said for golf.

Is it a sport in the purest sense of the word? That's arguable. It meets the criteria for a sport on most levels. It is organized, competitive, entertaining to those that follow it, and skillful. What it lacks is the level or athleticism that would make it comparable to more physical sports like football or basketball. I don't care for NASCAR, but I recognize that it requires a good deal of skill and coordination, so I recognize it as a sport. Hell, bobsled racing is a sport in the Olympics, and that requires a similar type of skill and coordination. I think the only people who are so concerned about whether or not auto-racing is a sport are the people who want to ridicule it and the people who want to defend against that.
Anyway, I recognize it as a sport. I just don't watch it.

I see what you're saying. I tend to not mock it, necessarily, but just never saw the appeal of it. Same with Golf and Bowling.
All three do take a certain level of skill yet when it comes to someone being a 'professional bowler' I can't help but laugh at them.
Sports?
Sports? Yow. Sports? No....
I dont even like the word. "Sports". Sounds like the name of a soda pop. "SPORTS! makes you happy!" "DRINK SPORTS!! It'll make you squirt! SPORTS! "
"Micheal Jordan drinks SPORTS! If you drink SPORTS you can be Micheal Jordan! DRINK IT! NOW!!!"
I guess I got thing against sports cuz back in school-being very short-I was always the last to be picked for anything. As a result I purposly f**ked up the game-IE-if i got a basketball-I would just throw it across the gym-or delibritly hit somebody in the face with it. I usually also got my ass kicked because of that. I hated sports.

It also sounds like a bowel movement, though this could be the lack of sleep talking... Aw man that burger just gave me the sports...
I love sport of generally all kinds, though I'm not a particular crazy fan of anyone 'game' in particular.

It does. "I gotta case of the sports." :bouncegiggle:
The best is when like, ESPN must run out of real sports and then they'll start showcasing fishing and spelling bee competitions to fill the void. :buggedout:
Just an update. In the NBA Finals it is now Miami Heat 1 game and Dallas Mavericks 1 game. The Miami Heat had a large lead going into the second half of the second game, but could not hold on to it, as the Dallas Mavericks surged ahead to win the second game 95 to 93.
15 points down with 4 minutes left on the clock, great game!
Congrats to the Mavs!

You better believe that everyone is gonna blame lebron for losing the game, even though wade played about the same.
Like RC, I usually hate sports. There's very little in way of sports I find watchable but I am a huge pro wrestling fan and I'd watch that over any hockey, baseball, football, soccer, whathaveyou game. I can watch a bit of boxing but honestly it mostly bores me as does MMA. Although I much prefer old-time wrestling over today's fare.
I loathed gym class in high school as I never got picked until last being rather short and chubby too. For a bit I actually tried and played hard and even sometimes scored a point or two (and honestly I think I could have done ever better with some effort and encouragement) but after a while of this, I just gave up trying and typically just paced back and forth during said games.
Weird thing is hockey is one of the few things I can talk to about with my Dad. I only have a basic knowledge from watching a few games here and there (and I do watch it on rare occasions) but I think it's mostly just to have said conversations...
Cricket ~ the one day and T20 version please, not the five day version :buggedout: ~ and soccer are my favourite sports. American football and Aussie Rules football are games that I don't understand 100% but they are undeniably exciting.
I'm a big sports guy lately. Big fan of Hockey, Football and Baseball in particular. We recently got a major league soccer team but soccer bores me.
Played a bit of football as a kid, then got really heavy and quit. By high school I evened out, and did fairly well in gym class. Did fairly well when playing basketball, hockey, kickball and volleyball in gym. Started getting picked first.
After countless years of heartbreak, almost wons, and missed chances, the Mavs won their first NBA title. I just wish my father-in-law was alive to see it. What a great moment for us Dallas sports fans!
Asked Lebron for a dollar but all he had was 3 quarters :teddyr:
Tonight begins a heated 3-game series between the San Francisco Giants and my Arizona Diamondbacks, who are a 1/2 game apart for first place in the NL West. Good times. Go DBacks!

I will never understand that. Rioting over sporting events. It doesn't get much more absurd than that.
Baseball season is coming into it's last month. My Arizona Diamondbacks are in 1st place in the NL West!
Well, they're certainly not the best team in baseball from a win-loss percentage, but they're good. They're not loaded with star players, they're scrappy, and they're streaky as hell, but damnit, they're in first place! With all the negative that's been going on in my life lately, it will be pleasurable to see my local team make it to the playoffs.
GO DBACKS!
Summer's coming to a close. The Philadelphia Phillies seem to be holding relatively steady, so barring anything major in the coming weeks, it should be a fun September/October.
The Eagles season is gonna be starting soon. Wonder how that's gonna go down.
And of course, my favorite team will be starting soon enough: The Flyers. I'm a big hockey fan. One good thing I love is the start of fall and the coming hockey season.
Congrats to the The Cardinals for the winning the World Series!

Looks like the nba season has been postponed(again!) for November 31st, no signs of any b-ball anytime soon. Thanks a lot David Stern :hatred:
It's been a long, tough year for my beloved Texas Rangers and it all ended sadly. I'm still proud of you, boys!

Totally agree.
I've never cared for any kinds of sports. I never watch it on TV either except for an occasional tennis match or baseball game. (and even that's rare)
The word "sports" makes me think of puke. You know, like when you're gonna barf and instead of it sounding like "RALLLLPHHH" it sounds like "SPOOOORRTTS!!!!"
I'll wear a baseball cap with some team's logo on it and some random guy will start asking me about the team and blah blah blah. When I tell them that I don't watch sports and that I just like the look of the hat they always react with disappointment.
I get that all the time from people. They look at me like I'm some sort of freak when I tell them I don't watch football. I could never stand American football. You see all these people going insane for their favorite team and that's something I've never understood.
I am the exact opposite of those guys who sit in front of the TV watching a game, drinking beer and screaming this and that. That's one of the big reasons I don't go over to my dad's house on Thanksgiving...because every other male there has their butt parked in front of the tube after the food's been eaten.
I do however like extreme sports like Airsoft.
