I watched this movie this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it!
The setting is Detroit. It is a very typical evening, people going to the mall, enjoying a movie, walking along the streets - a slice of urban Americana, pure and simple.
Then the nightmare begins. The power flickers off for a moment. When it comes on again, everyone is gone. Clothes lie puddled on the floor where people were moments before. A handful of people - a physical therapist, a young black teen, a movie theater projection booth worker, and an evening news anchor - all survive. They each had one thing in common - they were holding an independent light source at the moment the lights in the city died. There are a few other survivors, but the darkness takes them one by one - except for a mysterious little girl who lurks at the fringes of the storie. The darkness . . . and the shadows rule this movie.
This is one creepy, atmospheric masterpiece of modern horror. No slashers, no nublie teen boobies, no gore spattering the screen. Just empty clothes, shadows, and tension so thick you can cut it with a knife. Why did these four survive? How long can they last, huddled in a neighborhood bar with a gas generator to keep the lights on? Why do the hours of darkness grow longer and longer each day? Who - or WHAT - is casting the shadows that seem to crowd ever closer and closer to their tiny island of light in a dark city?
This was an excellent little piece of moviemaking - original and moving. Yes, a little rough around the edges, but definitely worth watching!!
Indy sez check it out!
I have seen this one recommended by Netflix but have been a little slow in biting. Thanks, Indiana. I'll have to give it a shot.  I could definitely use something atmospheric and moody.
Sounds inserting, I added it to the Netflix queue. Thanks for the heads up Indy!
