I know it's been brought up before, probably by me, but it's a fun topic, and I just noticed one I hadn't seen before.
I was flipping through channels and stopped on Tombstone, and I can't believe I never noticed a glaring mistake (and I'm usually good at spotting them) the many times I've seen the film before.
It's right after Virgil Earp (Bill Paxton) dies and Wyatt (Kurt Russel) walks out into the pouring rain, drenched in his brother's blood. As the camera pulls back, we see Wyatt walking away through the rain. The rain is pouring down heavily, but not far beyond, you can see exactly where the rain sprinklers end, and the dirt street is perectly dry. That scene is forever ruined for me now.
So, what are some of your favorite movie mistakes?
Highlander 2.
there was a huge 3 hour program on tv the other day called Greatest Movie Mistakes lol. they were even going for ones so minor you'd never notice unless someone said it. there were loads in the Harry Potter films
one of my faves is Pee Wee Herman's 'everlasting bike chain' he pulls out of his box before locking his bike up in Pee Wee's Big Adventure. you can see it being fed in through the bottom of the box. - but in the DVD re-release they edited this part so you can't see it, and they even mention it in the commentary

I remember the one from Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I saw that movie in the theatre and noticed it then.
Continuity error in Fatal Attraction when Michael Douglas is about to leave Glenn Close in her apartment. Glenn's nude boobs are either exposed or wrapped in sheets from scene to scene.

Not really edited, it was more a case of proper widescreen framing. The bike chain was never meant to be seen to begin with.
Similar thing happens in the first widescreen presentation of Don't Go In The House (1980). A female victim is chained to the ceiling. The old 4:3 video version you could see her, um, exposed crotch. Not anymore in the widescreen DVD version. However, Media Blasters included said full screen scene as a extra on the disc.
One that we all pretty much know is from Space Mutiny is where we see Lt. Lemont get killed, but show up alive in another scene later.
The Goonies (1985)
Chunk breaks the glass on the picture (map in attic) and clears the glass away from it. Then when the camera gives us another view of the picture frame the glass is still on it.
When Data puts his tape in the stereo he shuts the thing 007 music starts playing. He doesn't ever push play.
Mikey starts to bang on the ground with a fireplace bar (basement) and Brandon (older brother) stops him and Mikey calls him by his real name Josh.
this one, I'm not sure if it's a mistake in the movie or I'm making a mistake....
in SCANNERS, shortly after the head exploding scene the camera pans and in the background over the front of the stage and there's no blood or anything, or even the guy slumped over the desk like you'd think he would be?
I didn't explain that too well, but anyone know what I mean?
Plan 9 has all well too many mistakes, like the UFO leaving the home base and see the shadow, Tor getting stuck in the grave, the cockpit scene, etc... we could go all day just talking about Ed Wood movies! :teddyr:
The scene from Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla where Godzilla's tail falls off.
Mentioned it on another similar thread but I'll post it again here.
Hell Night (1981)- A girl gets dragged down into a cellar and is beheaded. The blade hits her chin (oops) and the fake body is pulled off from her neck.

Like claws said, that's meant to be covered up with properly matted for viewing, but I kind of missed seeing it when the DVD came out. There's another scene where Pee-wee's driving at night and passing by various roadsigns. In the full-screen version you can see a track that the signs are being pulled along.
Careful Watching of "Twister" will reveal that the truck (the one with liability insurance) is in fact self healing. There's a scene where the window breaks out and then in the next scene the window is back again. Similar thing happens in "The Mummy" but even more extreme is after their car is trashed as they escape the horde of zombified villagers then magically the car is fine again.
Last night while I was suffering through "Pride and Prejudice" (2005 version with Keira Knightly) with my wife I noticed some surprisingly bad cinematography. Relying on natural sunlight for your indoor shots is always dodgey as you get full spectrum (including UV) and this shows really bad in one of the scenes where instead of Keira Knightly playing the pianoforte all you see is a giant rainbow colored spherical abberation. Then the camera pans allowing the viewer to see more of the giant rainbow spherical abberation, again instead of Kiera Knightley. I pointed this out to my wife who said they probably meant to film it that way. I figure they would have meant to have used a polarizing or UV filter and realized in post production anything they did to eliminate the abberation (and its a fairly key scene that couldn't be eliminated) would show up worse than leaving it in there.
I wouldn't have noticed this except I'm being forced to learn photography now as part of my job and I'm starting to notice that kind of thing.

ah yeah I remember that one as well, in a strange kind of way it fits in with the surrealness of the film IMO

some more mistakes from Pee Wee's Big Adventure there
There's one in the original King Kong that only I seem to have noticed. (I'm sure others have, but it's never listed in movie mistakes regarding Kong (33))
When we first get a view of Kong as Ann is tied to the ceremonial altar-the shadows of the two pillars falls across Kong's Chest. But there is no shadow for Ann. O'Brein either didn't have the time, money, technology to animate one in or never noticed it.
Not really a 'mistake' but I always wanted to point this out to people...
Night of the Demons (1988)
Suzanne (Linnea Quigley) is bending over, in a short dress by that arcade right? Well after years of just paying attention to her panties... listen to those arcade sounds, that's from Pac Man for Atari 2600 and not that arcade.
Blue Eyes Of The Broken Doll:
At the end as the doctor approaches his daughter's corpse on the bed, a crewmember can be seen in the mirror he walks by.
The Abominable Dr. Phibes:
As one of the bats attacks Terry-Thomas' character, a very obvious string is carrying it.
Friday The 13th Part III:
As Jason squishes the counselor's head, it's a very obvious dummy and the eye is not only obviously on a wire as it pops out, some paper stuffing comes out of the "socket" as well.
~also~
In the scene where the counselor drops the yo-yo at the girl in 3-d, he hits her face with it. She complains that he 'almost' hit her.
Phantasm:
As Reggie flies backwards after touching the gateway to the alien planet, a rope can be seen around his ankle that pulled him back.
In "Romancing the Stone" Micheal Douglas swings across a gap on a vine. Look closely, the rocks bounce like pillows.

You can see something like that in
The Princess Bride. During the swordfight between Wesley and Inigo, one of them comes down very hard on their feet, and you can see the dirt sort of bounch and it's pretty obvious there's padding under the dirt.
Humanoids From The Deep:
REALLY bad continuity in terms of night becoming daylight and back and forth, where Vic Morrow's character and his cronies are paddling towards Johnny Eagle's house.
Creepshow 2:
More night-for-day nonsense as Chief Woodenhead breaks through the wall to scalp Sam.
Detroit Rock City:
The film takes place in 1978, but the song "Makin' It", played in the film, was released a year later.
In Universal's HORROR ISLAND (1941) as the cast walks into the old house from the left there is a VERY visable crew member standing on the right side of the screen shining a spotlight on them. After about 30 seconds of standing there he turns the light off and walks out of the scene.
Prop plane sounds are used a lot in movie scenes with commercial jets. Very few people ever notice this. The most ridiculois error I've ever seen is in "Twister" when Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton strap themselves to a pipe in the ground and have to hold on. Ok, so the twister is powerfull enough to lift them off the ground, yet Helen's earphones remain snuggly around her neck, wouldn't they have been blown off?

Actually, the song "Makin' It" was indeed released in 1978, but hit the charts in 1979.

In DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN (1972) Phibes and Vulnavia (what a great name! We nicknamed the surly lunchroom lady at our middle school "Vulnavia".) relax listening to
Somewhere Over the Rainbow between murders. The film is set in 1928 and the song wasn't written until 1938, at the earliest.

Well, from what I remember the kids were listening to it on the radio. That would indicate, to me, that it would be the single cut which came out in 1979. But yes, I guess the original song was released on the album in 1978.
I didn't watch the whole movie, just kinda remember that scene. Thought the movie was kinda stupid (but maybe that was intentional).
A recent movie mistake that I noticed was in the indie-ish movie, Night Catches Us, where a coward who has never fired a gun before, fires it 'gangster style' (sideways) and the actor doesn't respond to recoil, nor is there a muzzle flash, which makes it obvious that the sound effect with dubbed over in post.
There's a really bad mistake in "Ghoulies". During the master ritual when everybody starts screaming, the ghoulie that looks like a cat opens its mouth wide and you can clearly see the back of the mouth break open and reveal the puppeteer's finger.
You can see it here in the clip (at around 4:56)

In regards to the comments on the song "Makin' It." I think it brings up a good point. Sometimes you will hear a song from a certain decade played in a movie that might not have been out in the year the movie takes place in it. "Rockstar" and "Hot Tub Time Machine" come to mind. In HTTM, "Home Sweet Home " by Motley Crue was being sung by that one character, who chose to stay in the past. After he changes history, he is in the video perfoming the song. However if he was already listening to the song, he wouldn't have been in the video for it, the video in reality would have probably already have been shot. But often times it comes down to getting the rights to a song and what song would be best for the scene. As long as the song captures the basic time period it seems to work. I used to be really nit picky about things like that untill it was explained to me someone.
Piranha 3D: The cop falls in the water, next shot she's out and her clothes are all dry.
i remember from the original "Halloween". when the blue custom van pulles up in front of the house, it has a california license plate on the front. "Halloween" is suppost to be in Haddonfied, ILL.
From The Fly (1986):
Towards the end as Seth is nearing his final transformation, we see him typing on his computer. When he bites on his pencil, some teeth and blood fall out of his mouth. But in the next shot of the keyboard, the teeth are there and the blood is nowhere to be seen.
From Gremlins:
At the moment when the gremlin in the Christmas tree attacks Billy's mom, you can see a crewmember pushing the tree from behind.
It's here in the clip at around 0:47.
