The reason why Bozo the Clown joined the Circus was because of his rather stranger than usual Uncle Pennywise, who was, err, very....malicious towards the children.

Pooter-the-Clown's career went down hill after a chance encounter with Buck Russel one day in suburban Chicago.  Pooter often spent his days plotting vengeance against Buck and how he would reignite his sagging career.
