You know, I started the "You Know What Really Grinds My Gears" thread some time back and it was pretty well embraced for it's intended purpose, to just vent about stuff that annoys you.
What about the good stuff? Even a bloke as misanthropic and cynical as I manages to stop and smell the roses from time to time. What I'm talking about are those moments in life that just plain give you joy. You could relate something that routinely gives you pleasure or happiness, or something that recently happened to you that got those positive endorphins flowing.
So, let's see if this thread manages to be the counter balance to the Gears thread.
Life is good when...
...I make a pleasing culinary discovery.
I recently discoverd I have a knack for cajun cooking. I made some shrimp etouffee last night that would have made the Gods themselves ask for seconds.
... there's a thunderstorm approaching. Just got home from work and it has been humid all day. I can hear distant rumble of thunder as I type :)
No harm can come to me here with my family here

...eating an exceptionally good burrito while ravenously hungry.
When you wrap your hand around a rock in the water and know, the minute you touch it, that it is a perfect arrowhead!!! :teddyr:
This morning, with the day already shaping up to be a hot one, I put on my bathing suit at 6am, and went for a swim in the lake. Lived next to a lake for over five years, and finally got around to taking an early morning swim today. It was great. Nobody else in the water, not another swimmer or a boat or any sound other than birds and the faint sound of the highway. The sun was still low in the sky. And the water was great.
I should make a point to do that at least every couple of days for the rest of the summer. Mind you, I've been meaning to do it for five years, and only got around to it today. And that was because Lori and Ro are on a camping trip with a couple of Ro's friends and their moms, leaving just me and the dogs at home. Had I done it on a normal morning, chances are Ro would already be up and demanding to go with me.
upon discovering that with coupons your latest purchase will come to nothing or next to nothing! :teddyr:
LIFE IS GOOD WHEN... you get a free quart of strawberries and $5 off your purchase of $42 at Shop Rite.

...the occasional person gets me. I'm misunderstood more often than not, perhaps due to some communication problems on my part. I'm still trying to figure that out.
you find a $100 near the computer. :tongueout:
you return something lost and it gets returned to its rightful owner. Makes me feel all good inside.
You smile at a total stranger .... and they smile back.

the rain ends or holds up just upon your arrival.

You're hungry and steaming potatoes in the microwave only takes 5 minutes. Then you can add butter, sweet chilli sauce and a little cracked black pepper and you're good to go
You come in to work and realize you cleaned out the coffee maker the day before.

When Mini-me is happy, I'm happy!
... your annoying idiot upstairs musician neighbor with dubious talent had to cancel his heavily promoted Musical Garden Summer Fest in our backyard yesterday because of rain. He had it well planned though. Some firm put up a small bandstand with canopy Friday afternoon, and he was busy all Saturday morning setting up about 20 wooden benches, tables and BBQ grill.
So glad my dad and me were spared from his musical diarrhea. We get enough of his drumming stupidity during the week as it is.
...I get on for the first ride on the young horse who five minutes ago was bucking like a bronc and it goes exceptionally well. (The looks on the faces of the teenagers watching were a nice bonus!) :teddyr:
You go camping and there are no mosquitoes, most likely due to it having been a hot, dry summer up to now.

When the 6 page newsletter that you have been putting off writing since JUNE is finally finished, done, and in the Email to our membership secretary! I swear a beam of angelic light illuminated my keyboard as I hit the "Send" button!!!!
When you see a favorite episode of a tv show on the tube
When you just finished paying all your bills and you have lots of money left over.
When your daughter tells you the birthday present you gave her is the best ever, and talks enthusiastically about it to everyone. I do have to share some of the credit with Indy, who put together a nice fossil collection for a reasonable price.
Life is also good when you show your daughter her first Godzilla movie and the first thing she wants to do when it's over is watch another one.

I've used up all my money and had bills left over. Does that count?
When you find something at the local library you need for a book you're writing and didn't expect to find it. I was expecting to travel 40 miles to find it instead of a short trip.
...you spent a good portion of Sunday making some really kick-ass Mexican food, there are plent of leftovers, and you take some in to work, pop it in the microwave, open the container, and the smell just permeates everything.
... other people's houses explode.
:bluesad:

When you do good writing.
Right about that! I sent the first couple of chapters to my old friend Ellie (ER on here), and she really enjoyed it!
I need to get back to work, but I have some trees to finish cutting up . . . .
