Who has seen this alternate ending? Andy doesn't mention it at all in his review at all. It's very, very depressing and gave me the creeps for some reason. Anyway, I'd prefer the "Hail to the King Baby" ending any day, it fits better in a crazy movie like this.
To see the ending, type in this link:

Then scroll down the page and click on The Original Ending to Army of Darkness. I won't give away what it is, but let's say that Ash REALLY screws up.
I'm of two minds about it. The S-Mart finale is good clean American fun. But the original ending was more in keeping with the series - look at the endings of the first two movies. It would have carried on the tradition of Ash as the Single Most Screwed Character In The Universe.
I actually like the concept of the original ending much better. The director Sam "The Greatest Director in the World" Raimi loves to make Ash suffer. At the end of both previous Evil Deads Ash always goes from bad to worse, and let's face it, he's a moron, albiet a cool one. But I do prefer the direction in the studio ending and it has the classic lines "Lady, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the store" and "Hail to the King, baby". Personally, I'm glad both versions exist, but if they're going to continue Ash's journey in Evil Dead 4 I hope they pick up where the original ending left off.
Posted my message at the same time as Dr. Freex and basically said the exact same thing. God, I suck.
There's something about Ash being the last surviving human that puts a warm feeling in me. Oh, Ash! You just can't catch a break...
If they make an Evil Dead 4, and decide to use the alternate Army Of Darkness ending, make the released ending a dream. Show it at the beginning of Evil Dead 4, then Ash is smiling in a cave as it fades into Ash in the cave (the fading effect rules all), and then he opens his eyes, and the alternate ending is shown. Take it from there.
Knowing Sam Raimi, though, they'll re-film the entire ending and find a way to modify it a small way to make it a different movie. But hey, it'll kick ass anyways.
And in Bruce Campbell news, I heard he has a part in Phantasm 5, which is just about the only sequel I'm looking forward to at all (aside from the possibility of sequels to Ginger Snaps). Any news?
I like the store ending better. It was about time poor Ash caught a break.

No you don't - you're obviously a fine human being of intelligence and taste .
Yeh, yore rite. thanxs.
Bruce is in Don Coscarelli's (the Phantasm mastermind) Bubba Ho-Tep. It has possibly the coolest plot EVER: Bruce plays an old man who thinks he's Elvis and he teams up with an 86-year-old man played by Ossie Davis who thinks he's JFK to battle a mummy that's haunting a nursing home, sucking senior citizens' souls out of their anuses. And, apparently, if Phantasm 5 gets off the ground Bruce will be involved.
GOD, I can't wait for that movie. Any word yet on when it's coming out?
Sucking souls out their what!? Ahem.....well....that certianly sound like a Campbell/Raimi baby!
I'm not trying to be a jerk or be mean or make fun of you but are you serious? Army of Darkness is from 93'.
Bubba Ho-Tep's been in the can for a while and it will probably go direct to video. The website hasn't been updated in forever, so we may have to wait. Pearl Harbor and Resident Evil get released and gems like this get swept under the rug. Hollywood, you mean bastard.
I'm with you J.R.! Or how about the fact that an awesome movie like Drive shows up on cable once then goes to the video shelf but utter crap like Charlie's Angels gets a thetrical release! What's wrong with people these days?!
Actually, I was referring to Bubba Ho Tep. :)
If Bruce IS in Phantasm 5, I hope the director keeps it serious. I don't want to see the Phantasm movies go the way of Army Of Darkness.
Agreed. The only comedic elements in a Phantasm film can be Reggie trying to get laid from girls 30 years younger than him.
How old is Reggie anyway? In part three he looked 60(atleast).
I know, I saw it and it made me sad too.
