I saw the trailer (in 3-D) over the weekend when I went to see CAPTAIN AMERICA. Do we really need a reboot of this so soon? And it looks like they're taking some liberties with the Spider-Man story that I don't think I'll enjoy. The only positive thing I can say is some of the 3-D POV shots of Spidey swinging through the city looked pretty cool. Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben? Maybe. I was a big fan of Martin Sheen when he was younger. Now he just seems to be a caricature of himself. I'm sure I'll see this the first weekend it comes out (currently scheduled for a July 3, 2012 release). But I'm not optimistic. I'd rather see Tobey Maguire fighting the DAMNED LIZARD WHO WAS DANGLED IN FRONT OF US FOR THREE DAMNED MOVIES BUT NEVER SHOWED UP . . . or even the Rhino or the Vulture.
We don't need ANY of the super-hero movies, but they make money, so Hollywood will keep churnin' 'em out. I mean, look at what ComicCon has become? It's a big, big business now.
Also, the 3D craze is a big factor. It seems the studios are falling over themselves trying to get as much released in the 3D format while it's hot.

As someone who started reading comics (mostly Marvel) in the late 1960s/early 1970s, I'm happy to see the recent onslaught of super-hero movies. I just wish they'd stick with a series and then end it when it runs out of steam. All these reboots are driving me crazy. For example, FANTASTIC FOUR sucked. The sequel was better (but not much). Okay, guys, IT DIDN'T WORK. Now let's put the FF to rest for about 20 years before we try again. I don't need to see another version of it with a new cast in a couple years.

That's cool. I grew up on comics to some extent. I'm not a big fan of the comic-based movies. It was cool for a while, but I just think it's gotten old and has turned into the thing that the big film companies do because it's a safe way to make some money. A bit of a jaded opinion, to be sure, but I'm sure that's not difficult to see and shrug off if you're into the genre.

:bouncegiggle: I can totally relate to that sentiment.
Well, at least the Lizard is showing up. Beleive me, Iwas waiting for this to happen becasue he's my favorite spider man villian. I just wish they weren't taking their time showing what he looks like. I can understand that they want to build anticipation, but come on. Part of the fun of Spider-man as opposed to Batman is that with Spider-man you can have birght day battles in the middle of a city as opposed to jut keeping it in the shadows of dark alley ways all the time. We can see the hero and bad guys who are often brightly colored and silly looking. Its what helps set up the charachter-and why I'm nervous about hearing this movie is to be a little darker then the Sam Ramai ones.
Anyway..low res shot of the Lizard someone got from Comic-Con.

I wish the glut of superhero movies would just go the heck away. I'm so over them. Doesn't help that I was never into comics or costumed heroes in the first place. The closest I ever got was watching the first couple seasons of the 90s X-Men cartoon.

And I wish there would be an actual good video game movie outside of Mortal Kombat & Silent Hill, but it ain't happening anytime soon.
As for my thoughts on The Amazing Spider-Man, I got no opinion. This movie I'm unsure about so I'll wait until the reviews actually start rolling in. I do admit that I liked the first-person prespective used in the trailer.
As a coworker pointed out, it basically looks like they remade Raimi's Spider-Man, although I have a feeling they'll try to give it a more brooding vibe which is silly. I never saw the 3rd movie but know of it's reputation, although I think they should've just carried on with a 4th.

Based on the trailer I saw, they seem to have added some sort of plot twist about Peter Parker's past . . . something about his parents before Peter moved in with Uncle Ben and Aunt May . . . like a conspiracy theory subplot. I'm not feeling good about this.
I bet they're going all dark and brooding to match the "Twilight" vibe. Maybe the Lizard will be sparkly. The lead actor doesn't seem very Peter Parker-ish. He looks more like an underwear model, or sparkly vampire, than an introverted science nerd.
I remember reading somewhere years ago that Stan Lee liked to think of Spider-man as the Woody Allen of super heroes. I wish they would go with that version.( The Take the Money and Run & Sleeper Woody.)

Oooo, and they could have Peter creepily stalking Mary Jane all over the city. And she could be a whiny, self-centred twit who constantly puts Peter in danger and strings Harry Osborne along for no good reason. The teenage girls will love it.
I want to see this version from Mexico, Spider-Man vs Odin for the Heart of Gwen Stacey!

Once again, this is useless. Another attempt to bringing a gritty reality to comic book movies.
The only good that could come of this is having an epic battle with Venom or Carnage. Something that part 3 dropped a major ball on.
Its all started turning stale I think.
I mean SERIOUSLY Rebooting a 9 year old film? Why not just do another franchise or something?
Captain America really doesn't look that good, and most everything else looks so-so.
I am excited for TDKR though.

I thought it was okay, but certainly nothing special.
Andrew Garfield is a good actor, but a little tan for Peter Parker don't you think?

I haven't heard what direction they're taking there. Based off what I remember of the comics, I know they at one point were in the C.I.A. and had dealings with Nick Fury and The Red Skull. But I highly doubt they're gonna attempt to tie this new film in with the continuity of the Avengers flicks that've been coming out recently.
Who knows. I do like that The Lizard's in it. And they're having a chance to deal with Gwen Stacy a bit more.
I read that they're looking to do at least a trilogy with these actors. An intersting tidbit I read: Nels Van Adder is a character in the film. From Wikipedia:
"It was revealed that soon after Norman Osborne had Stromm arrested for embezzlement, he had found only a portion of the notes detailing his partner's serum. Norman tests the incomplete version of the serum on an Oscorp employee named Nels Van Adder, driving Van Adder slowly insane and beginning his transformation into a red, demon-like being known as the "Proto-Goblin". Killing several people and blaming Norman for what has happened to him, Adder proceeds to harass and later attempts to kill him before being knocked out a window in Oscorp by Arthur and George Stacy and fleeing into the wild. In order to escape conviction for what he had done to Van Adder, Norman convinces the police that Van Adder had been experimenting on himself, and that he had secretly been trying to help him. Van Adder's current fate remains unrevealed.[1]
As well as endowing Adder with super strength and agility, the Goblin Serum also gave him large claws, talons, fangs, glowing green eyes, and near impenetrable skin (capable of withstanding several close range bullet shots)."
Now, I don't know why Adder's in the movie and Norm Osborne isn't, but whatever.
They need to stop making sequels to these movies, and make only one.
I look at it like this: James Bond continues on.
I don't particularly mind if they keep putting new actors in the films as the heroes/villains. I just don't feel they need to 're-boot' it when they do it. Even people who AREN'T fans of Batman/Spider-Man/Iron Man etc., have an overlying knowledge of the origin. It's pop-culture.
Just keep the films ongoing, regardless. Particularly since, frankly, most of your money is gonna be made from hardcore fans and children.
Sure it's too soon for them to be rebooting but they know it's a surefire cash cow for them so they'll do it regardless. Honestly I'm tired of origin stories told and retold...just tell new stories with the characters...with Spider-Man, everybody already knows his origin anyways except for the youngest of the youngest perhaps...
I'm telling you, the day is coming when a movie AND it's reboot will be overlapping each other in their theatre run. AND IN 3D!

True. I think of how many exciting adaptations of novels, comics or TV shows I've heard about over the years, that just got stuck in development hell for years or fizzled out completely for lack of backing. It is kind of frustrating that Hollywood keeps doing and redoing the same stories over and over again, when there are lots of other properties out there just waiting to be turned into a movie, and many of those have already taken the first steps toward that.
That's what bugs me about sequels and remakes and reboots. There are movies I've been ready to buy a ticket for since I first read the story had been optioned, or someone had been hired to write a screenplay, or a star had even signed on, and there hasn't been another word in the news since.
I don't care if the Spider Man story gets rehashed endlessly, as long as some other stuff gets a green light at the same time. But it doesn't.
I was under the impression that Marvel/Disney had gotten the rights back, so they wanted to redo Spiderman their way. Raimi's interpretation was pretty likeable for two movies, but the third was a real let-down.
