Title: Creature (2011)
Post by: InformationGeek on September 10, 2011, 09:22:55 PM
We've given some focus to the biggest bomb this week, this month, and possibly this year to come out (Bucky Larson), we've seen to miss a true gem for us bad movie fans.  A group of friends travel out to some swamp and learn about an old legend of a mysterious creature residing in there.  You know the drill: The monster is real, monster makes food out of young adults, and y.a. run for their lives.

It is just as heavily bashed by critics as Bucky is, but this one may have some appeal for us due to how it seems to appeal to most things we like in silly films like this.  Plus, the monster effects look pratical, so that some make some of us rather happy with that.  Anyhow, if it is playing your area, anyone willing to scope it out for us?

I saw this one today. It's a classic '80s monster movie made with more modern technology. I personally thought it was pretty fun. Dumb, but I've seen much dumber. It tries to throw in some twists on old stereotypes in horror movies, so it kinda keeps you guessing. The pacing works pretty well, and the "twist" is handled well (it's not a twist ending, but rather one that slowly comes to light in the middle of the movie). Sid Haig is creepy (duh) in his role, and the monster is a good rubber suit creation, so there's at least a few fun things going on. Oh, and the nudity is plentiful (another '80s throwback--almost every female character ends up at least partially naked).

The storyline tries to combine elements of a slasher flick, a torture porn flick, and Deliverance, and it succeeds to some degree, though there are several plot strings that get left hanging (that is, several things happen that are just pointless). Oh, and there's incest and bestiality--what's not to like?  :tongueout:  :twirl:

I went to see this movie with my brother. There were only five of us in the theater, and the other three got up and left about a half hour into it. I'm not quite certain what they were expecting, but apparently they were very disappointed. I, on the other hand, had fun.

Sorry, I know this isn't a very coherent report. These are just some random thoughts. Creature is a fun bad movie; I'm not sure why it has been panned so badly.

A couple of the characters die for nothing that advances the plot. The monster kills a couple of them, which is fine, but they are "offered" to the monster for no good reason. I don't mind that the characters are killed, but let them die in ways that advance the plot. This occurs during the sequence that seems to be trying for a Saw feel. I just didn't really think it fit into the movie.

I have never seen this Creature.  I have seen the Creature that deal with a methane planet and Allen Thick (???).  The creature took out the German crew and then American.  Great head explosion shot too.  I will have to watch the 80s version and '11 version.

Later,

John

I just watched this and I have to say that I'm glad it bombed.  Hopefully the director will never be allowed to make a film again.  It was just stupid and annoying, basically zero fun in my opinion.  Hell, even the title shows how little creativity went in to this thing.  Although I didn't have to pay I regret watching it.

I work at a theater.  I don't watch that many films in the cinema, though.

Well at least it's doing better than Zyzzyx Road.

That's truee, but Zyzzyx played on one screen and creature's played on 1507.   :buggedout:
