44. VAMPYRE (1932)
One of the most disturbing films of all time. David Lynch MUSt have seen this.
The film is NOT scratchy. The director,Carl Dreyer, had the cameramen shot the scense with cheesecloth (whatever that is) over the lens to give it a murky, dreamlike look. A Nightmare on film. It is. A classic.
This movie will not only take you back into a bygone era. It will take you into a world of Lovecraftian horror. A masterpiece.
WATCH THIS SCENE! It will convince you. One of the best horror films EVER.

Horror and comedy go hand in hand. When horror is so overblown,it gets funny. Example-HUMANOIDS from The DEEP. The raping killing massacre at the end is ridiculously (I spelt that wrong) over the top. Turns into slapstick. EVIL DEAD 2,REANIMATOR,BASKET CASE...all good examples...as well as...

FUN FACT: Look VERY closely at the end of the trailer. That's not Janet Leigh in the shower - it's Vera Miles, who played Leigh's sister in the film. A deliberate move by Hitchcock to throw audiences off.

What I found so creepy and unexpected the first time I saw this one was

the vampire wasn't a slick Hungarian or a rat-faced German, but a little old lady.
That is because the film was based, in part, on J. Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla," which features a vampiress as the villainess.
