Title: Dead Alive or Braindead? Which title is better?
Post by: Private Joker on April 22, 2002, 09:02:26 PM
Me, I prefer Braindead, even though I'm a stuck up American.  Dead Alive DOES explain the movie more, though.  Braindead sounds like a teen comedy.  But the title just sounds better for some reason.
Replies?

Dead Alive all the way! Braindead sounds like a movie set in a hospital. This ain't Chicago Hope for crying out loud!

Why was it changed anyway? Was Braindead considered to be too offensive (unlikely, considering the movie's content), or was it because the title was already used recently in the US? Around the late 80s, there was a somewhat interesting low-budget thriller called Brain Dead, which had the distinction of starring both Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton. I own a copy of it. It's not bad, but certainly can't compare to Jackson's work.

I like dead alive. Its just better. Braindead doesn't really go with the movie I think. This is most likely because this is what its referred to around here. if I was in the region it was released as "braindead" i'd probably like it better. Because you'd have heard it called that time and time before it just sinks in.

I like BRAINDEAD better. It's more goofy and off-color due to not being a serious film. From what I heard, the title was changed to DEAD ALIVE due to the American distributors feeling the film should have a more "serious" title, even though it's a comedy and it's not serious.

I'd pick braindead because that's the title Jackson originally wanted to use and dead alive just kind of sounds weird.

Braindead is better, like StatCat said, its the original name that Jackson chose, why change it?

dont you recon that when you say Braindead, it sounds gorey? but Dead Alive, is just weird, i tottally agree with StatCat.

its like naming Bad Taste 'Lord Crumb Attacks' or 'Taste Bad'

whats up wit hthat?

lets just hope he names Bad Taste 2 'Bad Taste 2' and not something else

If Bad Taste 2 is made, I really think that there will be a name change. The studios will most likely want it to reach a wider audience, ignoring the fact it is a sequel a'la Army Of Darkness.
