A previous post got me to thinking about some of my favorites...
Cats
The King and I
The Sound of Music
Seven Brides For Seven Brothers
Gigi
My Fair Lady
Singing in the Rain
Fiddler on the Roof
The Wizard of Oz....technically a musical I think
Yankee Doodle Dandy
I'm not huge on musicals, but I do respect them for that they are and do enjoy one once in a while. Tracy mentioned some I like, particularly the classics like The King and I, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Sound of Music. Oklahoma is a true classic that can't be denied. The Music Man is a good one too as far as the classics go. Bye Bye Birdie and West Side Story are tremendous for the 60's musicals. I also really love Little Shop of Horrors, to include the 1986 film adaptation.

The Music Man....shame on me for forgetting that! I adore Robert Preston...he was wonderful in Victor/Victoria as well.
I can't stand modern musicals. I had to watch Sweeny Todd with subtitles and without audio.
That said, I do like Grease (1978) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show of course
A Mighty Wind is one of my favourite films not sure if it counts though...Spinal Tap? otherwise not that keen on musicals tbh

I love both of those films as well, but no, they are not musicals. A musical has to have musical numbers, and those musical numbers are a story-telling component, and convey actual feelings and dialogue of the characters. Musicals developed out of Opera, but with one primary difference. In opera, all dialogue is delivered as part of the musical score, while with musicals, it is interspersed with periods of spoken dialogue without music.
I don't watch many musicals, but Rocky Horror is OK by me, and as a matter of fact my wife rented the film version of "Dream Girls" (w/Eddie Murphy, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, et. al.) a while ago and I think I enjoyed that movie more than she did.
Also liked the film version of "Chicago," mainly for the extensive eye candy. I mean, geez, even Renee Zellweger looked hot in that flick.
Like most here...not a big fan of musicals....there ARE a few exceptions...
.The WIZARD OF OZ,of course.
.ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL-with the RAMONES,of course!!!!

Pink Floyd The Wall is an interesting one. It started out as a conceptual album on a very grand scale, and became a film that is difficult to classify.
Tommy and
Jesus Christ Superstar, for example, are straight up rock operas. The Wall, however, is not truly a rock opera in the strict sense, because it doesn't involve the characters singing to each other, nor is it really a "musical," because musicals are dialogue supported by musical numbers. The Wall has very little dialogue. Ultimately I kind of put it in it's own category.
Duck Soup
Blues Brothers
Animal Crackers
Not much of a big list.....
A number of the New Renaissance Disney films - Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, etc.
My all-time fave is the 80s Little Shop of Horrors.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4DO40DUYL8&feature=related
from "Hot Summer", an EAST german musical! The only musical I can ever recall liking, mainly for the music though the teenagers antics are fun in a goofy Frankie and Annette way.
Cannibal! The Musical
Team America: World Police
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
Grease
Wizard of Oz
Don't know if they 'technically' count as musicals, but they all have huge musical numbers in them.
West Side Story
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Shock Treatment
Cry Baby
Guys and Dolls
Little Shop Of Horrors ( I know its not as good as the original, but I really like the songs. )
Grease 1&2 ( I know 2 is awful but I like it )
Meet Me in St.Louis....ah,Miss Judy! She was a real treasure. And Yellow Submarine...hmmm...I guess I always thought of it as more of a cartoon than a musical but it certainly works as one. I love the Beatles....in fact,my screen name most other places I go is "Beatles4ever".

Most of the Disney movies up through the Golden Age (particularly SLEEPING BEAUTY, CINDERELLA, JUNGLE BOOK, ROBIN HOOD, BEAUTY & THE BEAST)

That's because the title is a sham. A SHAM I TELL YOU!
The nudie musical
Let My People Come predates it by two years.
