hello everbody! long time, no see. well, during halloween, i decided to stop at the local wally world to buy some candy and a movie that would help me get into the halloween spirit, since there is never realy anything on tv anymore. remember all the specials that used to come on around that time? all the horror movies? halloween just sucks now, but thats another thread. anyway, i bought h/r revelations to watch. it was cheap, and the packaging made it look promising. ive always liked h/r and was patiently awaiting the remake that will never be made. i saw this movie and thought "wow, i didnt know they were going to make this! is this the remake?". i after getting home with my new movie i couldnt resist doing a little online research. i was shocked to find out how bad this movie is. i also learned what an "ashcan" movie is. i havnt watched it yet, i plan to tonight. but im not really looking foreward to it after reading such negative reviews and opinions. im going to give it a chance, hopefully there is at least some interesting makeup or special effects.
I've never heard of an ashcan movie. What is it?
I had never heard of an ashcan movie either, so I looked it up. Wow. It seems that an ashcan movie is one that is made purely for the purpose of retaining production rights, and not intended for distribution. Apparently Roger Corman's Fantastic Four movie was their way of retaining moviemaking rights. This ties in with an earlier question I asked about optioning a script for production, and why a studio will sometimes just churn out a movie in order to retain production rights to the name.
