Gameshows have a surprisingly rich history. First, on the radio then on TV. How rich? Here are 28 men who have hosted gameshows.
How many do you remember? And how many more can you name?
I remember 17. Mostly because I watched too damn much Game Show Network for a couple of years before my cable replaced it with a different channel. :teddyr:
I remember almost all of them. I thought Bob Barker was most remembered for Truth Or Consequences..?
Also, Art James was on The Who, What Or Where Game as well as Blank Check and The Magnificent Marble Machine.
I can think of others, I'm sure.
9 of 'em but I'm not big into game shows.
Also, Geoff Edwards (Jackpot!, Shoot For The Stars, Starcade, etc.).
Larry Blyden (What's My Line).
Jack Barry (Joker's Wild, Break The Bank).
Jack Clark (Crosswits, Dealer's Choice).
Jim Peck (Second Chance, Big Showdown).
Peter Tomarken (Press Your Luck, Wipeout).
I liked the host of Family Feud...the one after Dawson. Combs, I think his name was? He ended up committing suicide. :bluesad:
Ray Combs hosted FF after Dawson. He committed suicide on 6/2/96. He was only 40. RIP.
He was really quite funny. I remember him appearing in Overboard.

That's him.
I couldn't remember if it was Ray or Roy. Used to watch it every night as a kid, sandwiched between Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Family Feud was never the same without Richard Dawson.
Drew Carey is terrible as the host of The Price is Right.
Match Game and The Gong Show are my all-time favorites.
I remember 14 of them. Can't picture some of them in my head, but those names are really familiar. There didn't used to be a heck of a lot else to watch sometimes when I was a kid.
I remember Alex Trebeck from Jeopardy and Bert Convy from Match Game. I'm sure I've seen many, many episodes of the Hollywood Squares, but Peter Marshall is just a black hole in my mind.
I remember most of them....I loved Gene Rayburn especially.
20.
It always seemed to me the Chuck Barris was on high on something.
Cocaine,I think.

Hmmm....I sometimes suspected that myself.

ROD SERLING, The Liars' Club
JACK NARZ, Video Village
BOB EUBANKS, Diamond Head
As all those were just off the top of my head, and as has been pointed out here, there were alot of game show hosts and/or game shows that I missed. But, here are some more that I remember.
"Storybook Squares" w/ Peter Marshall, the host of "Hollywood Squares"
The children's version of "Hollywood Squares," which was on Saturday monrings.
"House Party" w/ Art Linkletter.
I didn't know what to do with this one, so I kept it off my list, but at times it was like a gameshow. On weekday afternoons.
And here are more gameshows, which were not included in my original poll, because I could not for the life of me, remember who were the hosts.
Sundays
"College Bowl" (afternoons)
This was later revived for a short time on the Disney Channel.
Mondays
"I've Got a Secret" (evenings)
Which came on just after "To Tell the Truth," and to tell the truth I actually prefered "I've Got a Secret."
Saturdays
"The Dating Game" (evenings)
Just before "The Newlywed Game"
And gameshow hosts with gameshows I can't remember.
Tom Kennedy
Who had another gameshow on weekday afternoons just before or just after Gene Rayburn's "The Match Game."
Robert Q. Lewis
Johnny Carson
Who when he was just starting out in Hollywood hosted several gameshows. None of the titles which I can remember.
Jackie Gleason
Who hosted a gameshow, whose title I can't remember, but it was something like "In the Frame" or something like that, but the show is best remembered because only two episodes were ever aired. The first episode, and then the second episode, which consisted of Jackie Gleason apologizing to anyone and everyone who had watched the first episode.
And thank-you everyone and anyone for playing.

Thank-you for that, retrorussell. I just couldn't think of it off hand, though I knew it had something to do with pictures. That's a karma for you.
He he he.. that show is often in the conversation of "Worst TV show ever". Supertrain, You're In The Picture, Life With Lucy, Pink Lady, The Diamond Head Game.. the list goes on and on.
