HARRY AND TONTO (1974) on TCM tonight 10:45pm EST Monday, June 11
If you've not seen it, it is well worth watching or recording.
I watched all of it (again) and loved it.

An enjoyable movie, but it never really knocked my socks off. Plus, I'm somewhat bitter that Art Carney got the Oscar over Al Pacino. Carney's performance was top-notch, but Pacino's was masterful, probably the best of his career and one of the best ever.
Not really. The Godfather Part II itself is generally an overblown film anyway, pales in comparison to the original (and even then, The Godfather isn't even Coppola's best).
Harry & Tonto's just a beautiful film about life, without getting 'artsy'. Made me want to take a cross-country road trip with my cat (or rather, cats and dog in my case).
I first watched HARRY AND TONTO on television a long time ago... maybe even the late '70s when a MOVIE on one of the three networks was a BIG DEAL. There was a lot of that in those days. Of course, I've seen it at least several times... but I finally realized ART CARNEY wasn't all that old at all!!! He plays 72, but he was actually 55! He whitened his hair, wore his own hearing aid, and stopped hiding his limp (earned in WWII). Though CHINATOWN has a lot to recommend it, perhaps in the end, Hollywood went sentimental. From my own point of view, and a lover of the first two GODFATHER films particularly, I think the Academy got it right that time. HARRY AND TONTO is not a "knock your socks off" kind of movie. But it may creep up on you and steal you heart... why? Why? This problematic old man with his CAT? :tongueout:
I love it.

I think GODFATHER II is superior to the original.
