8) [REC] - one of the best horror movies I've seen in quite a while.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQUkX_XowqI
The subtitles on the DVD are a little better than what's shown in that trailer, there are no "sanity agents" lol.
9. THE LIVING DEAD AT MANCHESTER MORGUE
This movie kick started my interest in foreign horror.
I like the atmosphere, the locations, and the slower pacing.
i87Y67XCpHc&feature=related
Some interesting pics so far, a lot of stuff I have yet to see which is cool as it gives me some names for which to keep one's eyes peeled. I've seen Matango, Nosferatu and Vampyr which all became favourites and all three quite striking visually each in its own way.
10. Ringu (1998)
I don't care about all the criticism out there, this movie is creepy as Hell IMO.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieoJEvEnqbc
11. At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964)
Brazilian horror; the debut of Coffin Joe!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHm_Me0CDC0
Nice ghost story set with the horrors of life.
9. BLACK SUNDAY (1960) the Itailian film that brought international fame to director Mario Bava and actress Barbra Steele. And established Italy as a major player in horror film production.

16. Suspiria
NSFW
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwRG2qpEwl4
17. the original 1954 GODZILLA!
The first Godzilla film,in all it's black and white glory-seemed to be a much more serious and darker-apocalyptic-coming on the heels of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 9 years earlier, than the later films. He even looked scarier!
(http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/RCMerchant/godzilla_1954_poster_03.jpg) (http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/RCMerchant/PDVD_011.jpg)

18. FIEND WITHOUT A FACE
It looks American made, but it was filmed in England.
5ACj-eC3VFw
19) Curse of the Devil (1973). Probably my favorite Paul Naschy film, out of the few I've seen. Slow moving and cheesy, but scrumptiously Gothic.
NOT QUITE SAFE FOR WORK
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uISEcOiDKY
20. Little Otik. it's not the best horror film ever made but it is strange and disturbing.

I saw OTIK several years ago at a film festival in Nashville, TN. I had absolutely no idea what to expect and had never even heard of Svankmajer. Wow!
22. El Esqueleto de la Senora Morales....or in English...
A Taxidermist decides to murder his wife after enduring a hellish 20 years of marriage. Excellent little film.

NSFW

I will 2nd that, the music, lighting, editing some of the best in film.
Would add
The Tenant ( Roman Polanski) - Nobody does Paranoia like Roman
23. NIGHT OF THE DEMON aka CURSE OF THE DEMON (England-1957)
Jacques Tourneur's top notch horror film feels like a Val Lewton film directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
Tourneur was angry the studio imposed the mechanical demon on him but it went on to become one of the most iconic monsters of the '50s.
Opening credits and first demon scene:

24. The Ebola Syndrome (1996)
Disgusting and shocking.. in other words, a great flick! Anthony Wong (The Untold Story) is awesome as an inept sleazeball who contracts the ebola virus from an African girl he rapes, and doesn't die from it but is a carrier. He then does his darndest to infect everyone possible, through sex, grinding up infected people and selling them as burger meat, getting his blood/spit on them, jacking off in the meat he serves at a restaurant, etc.

28. The Ghost Galleon (1974) aka El Buque maldito. Spain

31. Black Christmas (1974): This classic that arguably ignited the slasher craze (but is that a bad or good thing?) was made in Canada. This movie is suspenseful and thrilling with some startling murders taking place at a soriorty house during Christmas. No real gore but lots of chilling atmosphere. Directed by Bob Clark.

32. DANZA MACABRA or CASTLE OF BLOOD (1964 - my favorite)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoi0-vpwjCg
34. FRIGHTMARE (1974)
Great British horror flick directed by Pete Walker concerning a cannibalistic old granny, played by Sheila Keith to perfection. Wrote a review of this a while back.

35.HAXAN (1922) aka WITCHCRAFT THROUGH THE AGES is a very disturbing Danish film....this scene predates Russels the DEVILS (1971) by almost 50 years!

-not everyone is saying what country their selection comes from. we suppose to guess? :teddyr:
39. The GOLEM (1920) Germany.
Their was a earlier version made-in 1914-and even a comedy short in 1917 called the GOLEM AND THE DANCING GIRL-both,alas-are lost.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Aow8kdrsW8
Just as a point of intrest-fragments of the 1914 GOLEM exist-but the notable difference is mostly in the set design...no surreal sets here-as the influence of CALIGARI would not apply to film until 5 years later.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cgr0HZwTCQM
A classic example of Italian medical horror
(http://i2.ytimg.com/vi/QHNn-yOCzYM/0.jpg)
I'm very impressed with the entries you guys have been adding, some great stuff there a lot of which I have seen (Demons, Quatermass and the Pit, Nightmare Castle, Plague of the Zombies, Atom Age Vampire) but also a ton of great names I've heard about but have yet to catch (Eyes Without a Face, Zombie, Twitch of the Death Nerve). There's a number of Japanese classics out there I've heard are amazing but have yet to see. Suspect someone will add a few of those. Here's my next entry:
58) The Mummy (1959): Hammer Studios take on the Mummy has long been a favourite of mine with Christopher Lee as Kharis and Peter Cushing as John Banning. Fantastic horror from the UK!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtQ_wTshOTo
59. Hands Of The Ripper (1971). Good British horror concerning the daughter of Jack The Ripper being possessed by his spirit.

60. ALUCARDA (1977)...from Mexico!

61. Curse of Frankenstein
My personal favorite of the Hammer horrors
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45W6GffEvYU
62. PIECES
Made in Spain.
NWkG_Olhb8w&feature=related
63) Naked Lunch (1991): This David Cronenberg adaptation of the seemingly unfilmable William S. Burroughs novel somehow translates to screen in an unsettling manner closer than one expects. While initially it seems incomprehensible and I'd guess is perhaps like something of a bizarre drug high, this delivers some downright weird and often more than a little unsettling thrills and chills particularly involving very sexualized giant bugs. IMDB lists three countries as being involved in this creation: Canada/UK/Japan although to me personally it has a certain Canadian feel and look to it.

64) Evil Dead Trap (Japan). This one is really scary.

65. the WEREWOLF VS THE VAMPIRE WOMAN (1971) My favorite Paul Naschy film! From Spain!

Some more Italian sleaze.

RC, I was just about to add The Werewolf vs. the Vampire Woman myself (actually watched it just last night) but hey kudos for beating me to it. Virtual karma to you sir.
67) Les Diaboliques (1955): The wife and mistress of a cruel hearted school headmaster plot to kill him but soon after they believe they've achieved their scheme, mysterious things begin to happen. While arguably borderline on some levels, this French movie has some great chilling moments!

68. BURN,WITCH,BURN (1962) from the land of our freind Circus-the bloody UK!

69. Rabid

Good British horror with 4 vignettes. Patrick Macnee, Herbert Lom, Peter Cushing, Charlotte Rampling, and other great stars appear.

73. CANNIBAL MAN
From Spain.
youtube has the whole movie.
Ghnizpnl8Ho
74. Blood and Black Lace (1964) (AKA: Sei donne per l'assassino): While technically more a thriller, a giallo, than an outright horror film, can anyone really deny this one's possible influence on the slasher genre with all the brutal murders it displays? This Italian-West German co-production from director Mario Bava definitely has its scary and chilling moments.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wisiw-RmZc
75. Dog Soldiers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj17S6ILYSo
This may be cliche' but the best horror I have seen is from Asia... Not just the Ring or Grudge. And I still have not ordered the gunie pig films yet (too violent for anyone, not just me. But I will be brave, and take the plunge) Also this is not Foreign in my case, but if you want NOT MADE IN AMERICA.
Then check out the Australian film "Wolf Creek" It's pretty much About three young adults that go on a road trip, only to be put in a situation where they have to acept help from a complette stranger who just so happens to find them and their broken down car in the middle off nowhere in the dark and cold (Yes it gets cold in the outback off Australia it also rains get over it) He tows their car to his 'camp' which is like a junk yard in the middle off no where, rustic and creepy.
Okay sooo lets see, This guy is a loner in the middle off nowhere, who loves hunting, has not much human contact and is not good with human contact anyways considering he is very shifty and creepy. Now! What could go wrong?
Well! Lets start with the next day, They all wake up seperated. One girl tied up in a shed, escaping only to find her friend being tortured, and their other friend no where to be seen. It keeps getting worse and worse, as we progress.
The worst part is the starts off all nice and happy. Just three young people going away for semester break road trip, there friends throw them a going away party, where they all drink themselves silly (No drugs or sex but I guess the rules off horror films still apply with just drunken aussies, since we drink hard) they all buy a cheap car, travel around the outback jokeing and laughing. And talking about stupid stuff like Aliens, You sit there in the chinemas thinking "going to central australia looks like fun!!" Untill they get to wolf-creek. Then you regret even thinking that place looks like fun. I have this film. It is Violent.

I think someone already used Who Can Kill a Child? I think it's number 47, close to it.
Indeed, Who Can Kill a Child? is already listed. Living_Dead_Girl, did you mean to add Wolf Creek to the list?
Has anyone seen these films- Onibaba, Kwaidan, Jigoku, Horrors of a Malformed Man - I've heard good stuff about those but I myself haven't seen them yet?
Also IMDB does list The Last Man on Earth and Dog Soldiers as partly American.

Add Wolf Creek it is not just Violent and nail bitting in that sense, But very phychologically dissturbing. Makes you never ever want to come to central Australia.
I have been to some small towns in the outback, one was strange... Population off 100 or less. The town itself as well as the residents are creepy. I came to one on a bus with my class for a school trip, and people came out off their houses to stare. Every second shop was an opal shop, cause it is an opal minning town. So they stared to see which tourests were going to give them money I guess??? IDK??? They were all just strange. One girl got Food poisioning at a fast food shop where some seedy men scared me quite a fair bit. The only place to stay in, at this town, was an underground, concret bunker. With rusty steel bunk beds. It smelt like evil as that sounds. I think one girl in my class had a polterguist beat the crap out off her that night... Although that incident is a mystery to this day to my school mates!
The outback had Drunkards and werios that is why this film scared me. Not all bad. But it does hit close to home. No pun intended.
yeah I've seen Wolf Creek. I was impressed with the acting, unusually for a horror. based on a true story as well afaik.
let's say Wolf Creek is 76. Who Can Kill A Child was a repost, so...

I personally like Children of the Damned a lot more but it feels less like a horror film.
What, no Fulci ??

82. My Bloody Valentine (1981, Canadian)
Classic horror flick with several classic moments, like the body in the dryer and the killer knocking out the lights as he closes in on his victims in the mine..

I enjoy a nice monster movie every now and then. You see so few these days. I'm not 100% happy with the story but find it original and interesting enough for a creature.

Not exactly a scary horror film in that it's very funny and I find it strangely moving, but it's got enough freaky supernatural stuff to qualify.

92: Jans Rautenbach's eerie, frightening, disturbing and amusing (yes: it is very funny in parts) Jannie Totsiens [Johnny Farewell]. Once seen, never forgotten ~ when you take the South African situation of 1970 and place it in the setting of a mad house, just wow......
93: Percival Rubens' The Demon ~ stunningly bad film with a terrible script and even worse acting but it has its' moments.
94: Cedric Sundstrom's The Shadowed Mind (1989) ~ a truly creepy film about the crazy inhabitants of a weird asylum for the super-rich. Beyond creepy with a nerve jangling soundtrack and a camera that is almost a participant in the film.

103. DESTROY ALL MONSTERS (1968)
I looked threw this list- and this ain't on it- and it should be! One of my favorite giant monster movies of all time!
This movie has every (well- almost every-) monster.
I don't recall Varan. Poor Varan.

Let the Right One In (2008)
nice mix of romance, horror and drama
There's this very strange South Korean film The Wailing.
Also, not 100% horror but the thriller The Crimson Rivers (France) has some really scary moments in it.
