By the Norwegian Band 'Ulver' They have had many styles off Music in their time. This song is very trippy in it's own way... Not just the lyrics, the over all mood in the music itself... They have other trippy music though.

The Electric Prunes version was also featured in the film Bad Dreams (1988)
Here's a clip from American Bandstand of THE ELECTRIC PRUNES:

THE MICHAEL STANLEY BAND is huge in Cleveland, and had one national hit ("He Can't Love You", ironically NOT sung by Mr. Stanley, the usual lead), but little known anywhere else; I've never undeerstood why.
(BTW, that IS Clarence Clemmons on sax.)

I find I love everything on this album by Uniform Choice, an old school 80s straight edge hardcore band but even in those circles this one often gets overlooked for not being your typical hardcore punk album from the period. This is probably my favourite song from the album:

Region of Ice
Also really like this one (hell honestly I love the whole album)

Here's a pretty obscure Neil Young tune called "Touch The Night" from his album Landing On Water (probably his most overlooked album).

"These Boots Are Made For Walking" by Crispin Glover (granted, the song is 'well-known', just not Glover's cover is well known)

Oh,wow! Captain Beefheart...cool!
I'm not sure how obscure this one is but it's never been played as often as Stevie Wonder's version.
