Title: The 100 best movie settings
Post by: Chainsawmidget on June 30, 2012, 03:51:38 PM
Sometimes the places in movies are just as interesting as the characters.  In some cases they practically become characters themselves (and frankly, sometimes they're the best thing the movie has going for it.)

So, with that said, it's time for another of those lovely top 100 topics.  This time, focusing on the best places and locations seen in movies.

I'll start with ...

#1  The Bates Motel (from the Psycho series)

I don't have a specific location in mind, but I must say that lost worlds are entertaining. In valleys, on islands, even under the Earth, a lost world is a good setting.

4)  The William J Washburn house.  It's got quite a B-movie resume, serving as the setting for Sorority House Massacre 2, The Immortalizer, Spirits and Teenage Exorcist.  It also appeared in Camp Fear and several others.

5. The Korova Milk Bar, A Clockwork Orange.

set in and filmed during the Cannes Film Festival, France. good film as well, one of the most entertaining 'slashers' I've seen, and far better than Spinell's previous film MANIAC (imo)

meh...street cred, schmeet schmed :tongueout: Maniac's pretty good but I felt it got a bit self-indulgent and is gruelling to watch.  TLHF is a surreal wig-out , pure entertainment. to be fair they are 2 very different films...

I don't know if I can number this one because I really can't think of a movie that was shot entirely in one-but I've always found mangrove swamps to be somewhat creepy and other worldly looking.

Southern Alberta, Canada. Many movies, big and small, plus TV shows from Little Big Man to Brokeback Mountain to Open Range have been filmed in various locations in Southern Alberta. Many, but not all , I might have been westerns.

I think we're up to

14.  Stewart, British Columbia.  Home of John Carpenter's THE THING.

The fatalistic isolation of the location helped drive the paranoia Carpenter achieved with the film.
