It's dry here folks, we haven't had any rain here for a month of more and the the temp has been hovering around 100 F for about 3 weeks.
The Arkansas Forestry Commission has been fighting several wildfires a day for the last couple of weeks. These range from a few acres to a few hundred.
73 of our 75 counties are under burn bans.
Looking at the info from this site the prognosis doesn't look good. http://www.drought.gov/portal/server.pt/community/forecasting
Hill County here in Texas isn't under a burn ban yet but several around us are.
We've been on water restriction, not due to drought, but since three pipelines were smashed by a collapsing bridge at Swimming River Reservoir treatment plant... meanwhile that same day my local municipality had an unrelated completely separate watermain break (again). We were on boiling water for three days... and water restriction. We have had rain and heatwave.
It's dry as hell at the Jerzey shore... we need some cool rain and clouds. FAST.
Amen to that, Brother. The grass is browner than a chocolate chip cookie.

I'm in Monmouth County and we have had some rain. Just can't water the garden... where are you in NJ?
Near Wildwood. It's hot and very dry down here...
Edit* Plus...
QuoteExcessive Heat Warning from Sat, 12pm until Sat, 8pm EDT
That's just great. Looks like I'm staying in... again.
hard luck guys. looks like we've got the opposite problem here in uk. England just had its wettest June ever, July is following suit, and forcast for August is unrelenting rain... Global weather distribution fail.
Last year we were in a very severe drought; this year we got enough rain that our local reservoirs are pretty full and the soil isn't totally parched yet. That being said, it's hot and dry now, but hey! It's Texas in August. What do you expect?

Sounds like good weather to me. Maybe I should move to the UK. I can wear my leather jacket everyday!

Due to extreme drought, the burn ban in Indiana has ben enforced with gusto. By "gusto" I mean heavy fines and prison sentences. Of course enforcing a burn-ban over 4th of July here means that there was no celebrating independence day with fireworks because all of our rain is falling in the UK.
well played Britian, well played...
@Allhallowsday, looks like we'll have a nice rain storm tonight... 9pm. Let's hope this cools things off.

That's moving SE.
Southeastern NC here. Not much rain so far this summer. We did have a large storm come through last Sunday, winds up to about 85mph in some places. We certainly need the rain, as a recent wildfire in a state preserve here showed. Seems we get more and more large wildfires each year here.
No rain. Hot. REAL hot-it hit 105 yesterday.
Keep telling me that global warming is in my mind, naysayers.
This is in f**king Michigan.
MICHIGAN.
The grass has turned to straw.
All the flowers and fields are dead.
Welcome to the Dustbowl,baby.
OH! DAM! I just figured it out!

George Noorey wink-
it's been 90-100 for the last 2 weeks, sans yesterday and today so far
the lawn looks horrible
I wonder if this has anything to do with this wacky weather?
QuoteThe most powerful solar flare of the summer so far erupted from the sun Friday (July 6), the latest in a string of powerful storms this week from our nearest star, space weather experts say.

We've gotten a little rain here in Texas but it's still hot.
Well, as Anthony Watts points out, we've had worse (http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/07/05/uuniversity-of-nebraska-claims-record-drought-in-the-usa-not-so-fast/):

Of course, that was 78 years ago, and this is still a drought. It's always good to keep things in perspective, though.
Interesting graphic. Media will always try to sensationalize everything, but it is good to remember that whatever the weather does, odds are, at some point in history, it's done it before!
Well now I feel bad, it's been rain just about everyday here in July! :bluesad:

That's the argument I've used against Global Warming....doesn't often work, though.
Here in Whitney,we got a right good rain yesterday evening. It was wonderful.
July storms are so spotty! Saturday it rained 2 1/2 inches at my house, but at my church, about 8 miles or so away as the crow flies, they got 1/4 inch! We've had a nice wet week here, though - at least a sprinkle every day. Very rare this time of year!
