Some genres seem to have a disproportionately large number of bad films. Case in point: Dinosaurs-in-Space movies. This genre includes Planet of Dinosaurs, Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet, and King Dinosaur, none of which considered good. What are some other genres that just don't work?
The "ghetto- kid-can-dance-and-becomes-famous" genre; they're all the same flick!
Most of the 50s-60s space operas (aside from Forbidden Planet) where in every movie our heroic astronauts encounter the threat of a runaway meteor storm and later face the threat of some monster on a planet largely inhabited by scantily clad women (Cat Women of the Moon, Missile to the Moon, Abbott and Costello Go to Mars, Queen of Outer Space, Fire Maiden of Outer Space, etc.)

Haha that genre works fine for me!

That's another genre that works fine for me, Jase. :bouncegiggle:
Here's one: The predictable "chick flicks" where you know who the chick is going to end up with 5 minutes into the film, even though she "hates" him in the beginning.
Musicals. All of them.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love those movies too but there's no denying they're bad. Pretty much every martial arts films follows the youth gains wisdom in order to seek revenge for some evil, usually murder, done to either his family or close friends but I love those too.
arguably not a 'genre' per se, but anything that tries to incorperate an "internet" element into its storyline
Argento's THE CARD PLAYER
UNTRACEABLE
YOU'VE GOT MAIL
a horrible recent slasher where the main guy keeps whipping out his phone to try and Google the guy chasing him for info...cringe
(forgotten the name, it had Paradise in the title iirc)
and although I haven't seen it, I'm gona go out on a limb and safely say this sucks:

Horror comedies. Out of all the ones I've seen, there have been a small handful that actually worked, but most are just the type of junk you sit through and have completely forgotten about by the time you put the DVD back in its box.

I gotta agree with Ghoul on this...dinos in space work for me. PLANET OF THE DINOSAURS is a classic-and Roger Corman's paste up'stoo cool for school, baby.
Romantic comadies-anything with Eddie Murphy-like a VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN-Saterdy Night Live alum should not go beyond the very limit of their hipster type humor-cause,well-they suck,Chevy Chase, anyone?
Yeah-I know I cant spell or type. Sue me.

Groovy. When he is found in my back yard his lawyer can contact me...I'll end up with a backyard full of lawyers. :drink:
The anti-South African genre of film, e.g.
The Wilby Conspiracy
Cry Freedom
Lethal Weapon 2
A World Apart
A Dry White Season
Bopha
Catch A Fire
The Power of One
The Color of Friendship
Skin
Black Butterflies
All these except the third one from the top failed and deservedly so.
The movies with the voiceover narration taking the place of dialogue tend to be tough slugging although I do have a soft spot for The Beast of Yucca Flats....

The next episode of Doctor Who has a slight variation that premise - dinosaurs on a space ship. The trailer features The Doctor excitedly exclaiming "DINOSAURS ON A SPACESHIP!!!".

The title of the episode: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.
I can't think of any movies mixing the Western and horror genres that were very good.

I liked RAVENOUS.
Movies that try to cash in on nostalgia, especially if it's tv characters - FAT ALBERT, THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE, ARCHIE: RETURN TO RIVERDALE, THE HONEYMOONERS, the CG YOGI BEAR, SMURFS, GARFIELD & MARMADUKE movies.

I was just about to mention a slightly more specific category that seems to fall in line with most of these (I actually like the Brady Bunch Movies). Mine was animated shows from our childhood turned into live action/CGI movies for our kids's childhood (wherein they don't give our kids enough credit to assume they can sit through a movie WITHOUT fart jokes). They just don't capture the spirit of the originals...

Musicals. All of them.
I agree, or, at least, that I agree that of all the movie generas out there, movie musicals are probably my least favorite.
As much as I love them, teen slasher in the woods movies (my made up sub genre of slasher movies) haven't changed since the first Friday the 13th. Most of them are really bad. Hell, I started writing one and never finished it. I think it is the most used storyline in the horror genre, if not in motion picture history. There are a ton that get released every year. I think the zombie genre is catching up though. John Carpenter said in an interview that he thought there were too many Zombie movies and how many times is Hollywood gonna keep ripping off George Romero.
Movies that are weird just for the sake of being weird. No weird occurrences to further the plot or anything, just weird occurrences. Examples:
Highway To Hell
Nothing In Common
Forbidden Zone
and to a lesser extent:
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Though its "appeal" is more for its songs, but since I am not a fan of musicals I found nothing particularly to enjoy about this movie.

I would add Hard Rock Zombies to this category.
Any movie that has an animal, usually a dog, wearing a pair of sunglasses on its cover/poster.
i.e.
Firehouse Dog
Beverly Hills Chihuahua trilogy *shutter*
Marmaduke
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
Doggie B
I seem to remember another awful one with a golden retriever wearing sunglasses. It used to populate the $5 at Walmart ad nauseam.

Bingo. IF YOU DARE (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101455/) :drink:
I had also written down quite a lot about a genre I call "Idea Movie". Pretty good stuff I thought but I did the following:
1. I copied all the text so that I wouldn't lose it.
2. I went to verify that the poster was indeed from
Bingo.
3. I got the link and posted this reply.
4. I decided that instead of having to replies to the same topic I would put both in this one so I hit Modify and right-click/pasted.
5. The imdb link appeared.
6. Alcohol.
Well, the culmination of Idea Film was going to be Rubber (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1612774/) (2010), which is set entirely (pun?) around the concept of "no reason". It's pretty funny at first but after about fifteen minutes the joke begins to wear. It wasn't a rental I finished.

Are you talking horror satires (e.g. SHAUN OF THE DEAD, TUCKER & DALE, ZOMBIELAND), or the wink-wink meta-horror movies like SCREAM? 'Cause if it's the latter I totally agree.
