This is something that annoys me every time I want to purchase an anime. It's not so much the DVD, but it more or less the tapes. I've seen many of these tapes that are not even feature length movies and cost more than $20. These are the kind of tape that have at least one or two episode that are 30 min. each in length. When I buy animes, I buy The feature length types, the one that are more than a hour long. If I wanted to see some 30 min. snippet, I'd watch the Cartoon Network. Why not price tapes based on the length of the content? Like 30 min.=$9.95, 45 min=$13.95, 1 hour or more=$19.95+.
And that's my two cents.
They do that because Anime is "hard" to dub into english. That's a bunch of B.S., because most of the time subtittled cost more than dubbed. I love anime, but I almost never buy anime because it is so damn expensive. There's this one anime, 1 hour 2 minutes, that's freakin $32. WTF?!?!?!? Then one that's 32 mins, $20 dollars. The truth is id dosen't cost more, they just do it for money. One thing I hate is how they will put "For Mature Audiences Only" on the tape when there is nothing bad in it. My nephew is 14, he loves anime but they won't sell him tapes because they are "bad". Please. Gunsmith Cats vol.3 had no nudity, three swear words, and mild violence. Not x rated material. I know the difference between Adult anime and Hentai(XxX) anime.
What truly amazes me is the cost of anime that I would consider very mainstream, such as Dragonball Z. It's been shown all over television, has a decent-sized market, and has surely made enough money from broadcasters to cover the cost of dubbing and editing, yet the price of the tapes is ridiculously high. There's just no excuse.
I'd like to get more anime, but the price of new dvds.......but, the public library, where i type this message, i buying lots of anime, and i hope to at least get to samble some of the goodies i can't afford! Call me luckey....
I agreed too they cost too much like around a little close to $60 and up I have seen soft core porn only cost to $20 like at Sam Goody and the others. They have the Playboys or Penthouse or others that cost up to $ 30 dollars then have Anime old and new costing up to $60 or more dollars. I hate that when they have a sale on video the other videos like porn, sports, music, and others are cut down to low price but not Anime.
