Seems that I will be taking part in a seminar here: www.nationalartsfestival.co.za/show/the-naked-prey-seminar/ (http://www.nationalartsfestival.co.za/show/the-naked-prey-seminar/) I see they didn't get the Film Archives' name quite right, but anyway.
Sounds like (and should be) fun. :teddyr:
I do need to rectify my ignorance of that particular film...immediately...but any panel that includes two (count 'em: TWO!) film curators named Trevor and an ethnomusicologist has got to have a lot of potential! It would be cool to watch 'our' Trevor in professional mode.

In addition to my 'panel beater' work there , I also have to screen the Jamie Uys film
Dingaka en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingaka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingaka) so I guess I better get busy putting a 35mm print together, huh? :teddyr:
"Just because he killed your daughter doesn't give you the right to kill him. We're civilized here: we do it for you."
- ! Dingaka has lines like that, Stanley Baker AND Juliet Prowse? Where has it been hiding!

Yes it does: That line always gets a good laugh, serious film or not. :teddyr:
Jamie Uys collaborated with Joseph E. Levine (
Zulu, Magic, A Bridge Too Far) on that film and the film was released internationally. Shortly after returning from Europe where he made
All The Way To Paris, Jamie found that he had been kicked out of his company and he joined another as a filmmaker in residence, making films such as
Dirkie and
The Gods Must Be Crazee for them.
Dingaka has only ever been released on VHS but that should change in 2014 when the film is officially in public domain.

I keep the 35mm cans under my bed.

Grahamstown is normally very cold and rainy during the festival so whatever I wear will freeze. :buggedout: :twirl:

Agreed: I think I should leave the things behind, but they would probably storm the plane and wrap themselves around the pilot's head so.... :buggedout: :teddyr: :teddyr:
I will be leaving on Friday 28th and will be back online on Wednesday 3rd July. :teddyr:
As promised, back online on the 3rd July. The festival wasn't great but it wasn't that bad either, especially as (a) my special niece and nephew were there and (b) the car the rental agency gave me was one like this: :buggedout: :buggedout:

It was like driving a tank. A comfortable tank but a tank nonetheless: I couldn't see where I was going most of the time. :buggedout:
Anyhoo, nice to be back and lucky me: I get to do it all again next week Wednesday. :teddyr:

Next time ask for a booster seat. Or drive from the turret. :bouncegiggle:

Another thing about the Kia Sportage: I'm not a tall person but I always managed to bump my head a good one on the door frame. Every time, it was DONK and a "Oh [expletive deleted] it, there I go again!" I never figured this out. When the steering wheel is locked, you need the arm strength of Jesse Ventura and Ahnold to unlock the damn thing. :buggedout:
Still, on the open road, this car is great. Bit thirsty though. :teddyr:
Knowing nothing about this film, I did a google search and came up with this.

What I gather, is that this is a movie about some guy running around in his undies.
When did Trevor's life story become a movie?

:bouncegiggle: :bouncegiggle:
That's it and that is the late great Ken Gampu to Cornel Wilde's left.
The film is essentially a remake of the Richard Connell story
The Most Dangerous Game where some unlucky bugger is hunted for sport. I was on a discussion panel with its' musical director Professor Andrew Tracey who told me that he still receives royalty payments for his work on the film which is nice.

I got my official invite to the 2015 National Arts Festival this morning: www.nationalartsfestival.co.za (http://www.nationalartsfestival.co.za) and we will be screening Jannie Totsiens [Johnny Farewell] and Katrina in July there.
Two of the most controversial films ever made in SA:both of them attacked apartheid head on but also in such a way that those charged with seeing what was fit for the SA public to see, failed to see the true message behind the films. :teddyr:

Katrina is tremendously powerful. It holds a mirror to the times. It was done so well, it is no wonder 'they' missed the message. And so very, very fitting - what a comment on 'them' that they missed it!

The idiots in charge back in 1969 - censors, government - thought
Katrina was a love story! Oopsie.
And no screenings this year: dammit.
