earlier today at about 4:40pm (uk) I was just walking back from doing my shopping I looked up in the sky and saw what I thought was a star, like one of those stars that somehow comes out early while it's still daytime/early evening, looked at it for about 2 seconds then looked back where I was going. ...then I thought nah, that was too big to be a star. so I looked back and stared at it again, this thing looked like a golf ball in the sky. about twice as big as the biggest star you see but it wasn't 'shining', just white. as I was looking at it again, it suddenly faded away to nothing in a split second! literally went from there to gone. clear sky, no cloud cover... I was stood in a crowded street at the time, anyone looking in the same direction in the sky would've seen it.
pretty exciting huh. any ideas?

What you saw was light from Venus reflecting through swamp gas.
yes...yes... that's all it was.
okay can I go now?
:teddyr:
What you saw was a satellite, weather balloon, reflection of plane, meteor, "swamp gas" etc
That is, if the object was flying in a straight line matter
Nah, what you saw was a RC flashlight flying around. :tongueout:
It's happening

my current theory is that it's an intergalactic space-potato which had suddenly forgotten it left its front door unlocked on planet ABCDEFZ1239 and had to rush back. Just a theory tho...

I saw a UFO when I was about eight - it landed on our primary school's playing field and we saw the burnt circles afterwards. No jokes: hundreds of school kids saw the evidence.

pretty sure I've seen you mention that before Trev.... if you add that to my story it just goes to show there are normal, sane people out there who've seen UFOs too. ermmmm... :bouncegiggle:

If I am 'normal' and 'sane' then I didn't see anything at all.  :teddyr:

Maybe it was the orb of a disembodied spirit, and it wasn't as far away as you thought that it was? They've been spotted around graveyards or other places where people have died. Gettysburg, USA was the site of the great battle during the American Civil War and is chock full of spiritual activity. The orbs around that are normally don't appear to the naked eye, usually just in photos. But you never know how this spirit world crap works.
this thing was definitely wayyyy up in the sky, but I know what you're saying though.
I grew up near the site of the battle of sedgemoor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Sedgemoor) (apparently the last battle to be fought on british soil) , and there are rumours that on certain nights you can hear the battle cries of wounded soldiers coming from the fields, and apparently some families sold their houses and moved away because of the 'ghostly spirits' that would be walking all round their houses at night.. Okay...that kind of thing could just be folklore mumbo jumbo, but it's quite a persistent rumour in that area anyway.
It can be totally frustrating seeing something unusual in the sky, because odds are you'll never know what it was, never see it again, and most of the people you try to tell about it either won't believe you or will try to jokingly explain it away.
The only time I saw something unusual was about 15 years ago. I was hanging out with my friends and off in the horizon there was a streaking green light, then it flashed yellow and disappeared. I just assume it was a meteorite, only problem is I've never seen them make two different colors before. Most of the ones I see are white.

true. I'm not going to mention this to any of my non-virtual friends...(which should be easy cause I don't have any!)

I would say that is a pretty genuine occurrence. Our office building which was originally a house built in 1892 is haunted. During the day, it's fine but at night, there are some pretty bad vibes here. :buggedout:
