:buggedout: I saw this last weekend: yikes - what a train smash (pun intended) of a movie that was.
Yeah, I didn't like it either. Waaaaaay too looooooooong. Just because Gone with the Wind (1939) was long, and women loved it, doesn't mean that you have to make it just as long too. Aren't Americans droning the crap out of these same camel jockeys now?
Hmmm!!!???
Well, that makes three of us, but we are in a distinct minority.
It is not only regarded as being the best film of 1962, but one of the best films ever made. The cinematography is especially highly regarded.
It is also the film that made Peter O'Toole a star.
What I found interesting is that there are no female speaking roles in the film at all, and at 227 minutes, it is the longest film made in which you never hear a female speak. Actually, I don't remember seeing any women at all in the film.
I love this film. Long portions of it are "motionless" which is a quality I find interesting in a good film, or in this case, a GREAT film. I could see where someone might not appreciate it; it's that viewer's loss.
You guys should know me by now: I was kidding! :teddyr: :teddyr:
This is a truly great film.
Trevor, you're trolling? :buggedout:
No matter how well made a movie is, there's someone who hates it, and no matter how badly made a movie is, there's someone who loves it.
I love LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, too.
If I ever get a chance to review Lawrence of Arabia (1962) here, would that qualify it as a "good" bad movie then? Or does the slime rating play a factor here as well? :teddyr:

I think our host's specialty is reviewing BAD movies - movies that are good, though bad, and movies that are just plain bad. I'm sure members have reviewed good movies, too. I myself like to review dumb movies (my favorite kind of bad) and loved some, and hated others.
Here are mine:

The first time I saw LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (on television back in the 1970s) I really enjoyed it. And I was a little kid at the time. I think they showed it in two parts on one of the major network's movies of the week. Years later, I watched it on videotape and still enjoyed it. I ended up buying the DVD 10 or 15 years ago. My impression after my third viewing was, "technically well made, but slow and dry (as the desert?) at times." I still like it, but I don't love it.

All fair remarks. The film despite a lot of marvelous settings, cinematography, music, ...is dated. There are some very good performances in here, but this film reveals the chinks in its armor upon repeated viewings. I still love this movie.
