I was excited about China landing on the moon, and am all for space exploration no matter who does it, but I have been hearing reports of China's goal of militarizing space, including the lunar surface, which I think is terrible. Even the USSR pledged never to do that. I wish there was a collective space agency that was funded by all the nations, cooperatively. Think of what that just might accomplish...although now I think of it competition has often brought about the greatest amount of progress.
I hope China's achievement (and good for the Chinese, by the way) re-energizes the rest of the world to step up interest in getting human beings out among the stars, because over the last generation everyone's been slacking something terrible.

I agree ER, I hope this will get NASA off its ass. I would have thought this would have been bigger news, I guess people just don't care about visiting the moon anymore.
If this pushes the world back into further expansion into space I'm thrilled. But please leave the politics and military out of it.
