Always loved the location Humanoids from the Deep (1980) was filmed: Fort Bragg, California. Low overcast, occasional drizzle, moist, foggy and very mild weather throughout the year. The movie really captures that to great effect. Plus I always had a soft spot for coastal towns.
There was a specific warmth to the cold and sterile but (at the time) modern mall setting used in the opening to Cronenberg's Scanners (1981) that left an impression on me. Apparently filmed in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Loved the location and the chilly night shots that looked like it was about to snow any minute (Filming Dates 30 October 1979 - 23 December 1979).
Since I'm a winter person, as far as snow bound filming locations go I have to say Cronenberg's The Dead Zone (1983) is one of my favorites. IMDb lists Ontario, Canada as location, and when I first watched the movie I wanted to immediately move there :teddyr: . There must be something about Canadian snow. Maybe its just me but It looks more different to me than American snow. For example, the snow in Wendigo (2001) is a total mood killer. Its dirty and patchy and simply ugly.
I love the snowy landscapes in The Heroes of Telemark (1965). It was filmed in Gausta, Telemark, Norway and yes, I wouldn't mind living there  The whole thing is just beautiful, it always makes me think of when I was a little kid out playing in the snow.

The scenic locations in LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE. Both beautiful an eerie. IMDB says they were shot in Derbyshire England.

The locations for THE WILD GEESE and knowing that I had been there many times as a child.
The freezing cold on location shooting for Land of The Dead.
The almost too real location shoot for Uwe Boll's Darfur, shot in Hout Bay near Cape Town.
Coney Island always struck me as memorable in films...

The Shawshank Redemption was filmed at the (now defunct) Mansfield Reformatory, in central Ohio. I got dragged along on one of its cheesy ghost tours about ten years ago, and while that wasn't scary, the fact that so many people lived all or part of their lives there under near-Medieval conditions definitely was. Every time I see that movie now I think about that awful real-life prison.

One of the best uses of an existing location in any film!
The beautifully eerie cemetery in CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD - shot in the famous Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
Table Mountain in Cape Town www.tablemountain.net (http://www.tablemountain.net) was the setting for the ending of David Millin's The Second Sin where the lawyer on the case is shoved out of the cable car at the end. :buggedout:
The airport used for the final scenes in Michael Mann's Heat left a lasting impression.

I think it's safe to say 99% of the population had no idea this thing existed until CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. I didn't.

While watching the Norwegian horror flick "Dead Snow" last night, the gorgeous background scenery caused me to think to myself "Geez, Norway looks like a freakin beautiful country" several times.
Any movie filmed in New York in the late 60s - early 70s, e.g. TAKING OF PELHAM 123, MIDNIGHT COWBY, MARATHON MAN.
The battle terrain from STARSHIP TROOPERS, even though I hate that movie, because it's the Badlands. I grew up near there and spent a lot of time exploring that area as a kid.
