Title: To Our UK Friends
Post by: ER on February 12, 2014, 04:13:39 PM
To those in the United Kingdom dealing with the truly horrific weather that's hammering Britain and Ireland right now, stay safe and good thoughts sent your way!

thanks. the south-west where I live is probably the worst affected region, although I'm not in danger of flooding cause I live in a high area (and on a hill), and the wind is bad but manageable. areas pretty close by have been hit badly. here's a pic of a village just a few miles away

that house which still seems to be above water (barely) belongs to a guy who is trying to keep the water out by building a mud defence around it (costing £10,000) but apparently it's now flooded as well  :bluesad:

Worrying about what happens here in NJ tonight, I was unaware of the serious weather problems in Britain.  Zombie, that picture is stunning.  We're glad to here you are safe and well.
Snow supposedly coming 'round midnight until later in the morning turning to rain for hours and then back to snow until Friday morning.  We're facing another major storm here in the eastern USA.

well, good luck to you AHD and the rest of you guys also...

we're always hearing about extreme weather in the USA on the news here. like your mega tornados, hurricanes, wild bushfires, floods etc etc... we don't tend to get anything near like the intense weather you seem to, so this flooding is a bit of a shock for us!

Sounds like things are still bad across the UK. Some sad stories coming out over there. I hope everyone affected catches a break soon.

As for where I live, half a foot of snow last night on top of a foot on the ground, another inch coming tonight, and Thursday it'll be sixty above with possible tornadoes. Ah, life in the American Midwest.

Yeah, from one Jersey boy to another, we got hammered with snow!  And now rain is coming in next week and all we'll get is a big wet mess. That's Jersey for you, one extreme to the other...

I tell you something even my village that NEVER gets flooded to any great extent has been sandbagged for precautions, one house even was getting pumped out by a fire engine. I tried to drive 10 miles the other day and encountered roads turned into rivers and downed trees - madness!

As I sit here today with my community under a flood warning, a few hours away from an impending evening full of tornado watches, I am feeling especially empathetic about the UK's weather-related plight. Good luck, guys, and hang in there, the worst is surely behind you. If invading Vikings, Nazi air raids, and the questionable wit of Simon Cowell couldn't get the best of the British spirit, I know some misplaced water with an identity crisis won't be able to do it!

the worst of the wind + rain appears to be over now in my area

although we did have the small matter of an earthquake to contend with earlier
