I heard of Night Beast from the Red Letter Media folks, got to call some bs since they claimed the Night Beast wasn't in it much. Plenty of monster action, not too bad I like the cheapness, better than Galaxy Invader and enough gore to make me happy.
Contamination isn't too bad either, boring middle though. I remember first hearing about it at Liz' And You Calll Yourself a Scientist, but I can't figure out what twist she was talking about. I remember wondering what it was for years but everything seemed pretty cliche. Can't complain about a bacteria that makes you explode violently in seconds either.
Monster/Monsteroid, same one Andrew reviewed here. Pretty darn drecky and murky too. At 1 hour and 23 minutes there were only four eatings or so, what a load of crap. Even lamer is I got kind of interested at the subject at the center, dirty factory gives jobs and life to a village, some folks want it out, and monster eats everyone.
So I shouldn't complain too much about public domain stuff.
Oh yeah that's right, watched Xtro too. Been sick so I had some time for some b-movies. When looking at Xtro as a cosmic horror story it is a little better, maybe not quite Lovecraft but something terrible and hard to explain from space.
I watched Monster for the first time last year on YouTube as well. It's a real energy drainer. Never expected it to be great, but I'm always expecting some fun cheese. Monster only had dull cheese to offer which is too bad.
Is the where they 'fish for monster' with a helicopter and a blow up sheep carcuss? Cause at least that was...an interesting trick. A real 'Burt Gummer' so to say.
Yeah Monster has the dynamite in the sheep carcass fishing bit.

Ya know, that would be a great question for Jeopardy...love to see Trebeck read THAT card!
Contamination is a mixed bag for me. Alien avocados that make people explode should make for a great movie, and when people are exploding it's entertaining in a silly splatter way. However, there's an awful lot of movie without people exploding - which is no fun at all. The sudden appearance of the alien monster helped the movie end on a strong note. Even better once the DVD came out and I could actually see what was happening. The old VHS was a terrible transfer.
Yeah I admit Contamination could be better, still, opening is good but I prefer a weaker opening half with a strong ending than the other way around.
I have yet to see Nightbeast, but the trailer is practically a parody in itself:

It's honestly hard to tell if the producers of the trailer were being serious. I have to err on the side of self-parody, because the notion that they were serious is disturbing. That, and the police chief looks like Ron Jeremy the porn actor, it's too 'bad early 80's' for me.
Nightbeast was another of those 'forbidden movies' that I would peer at in the VHS rental shop, but was never allowed to watch. Now I am trying to avoid it...
NIIIGHTBEEEAAST! TERROOrrrrrr from BEyoooooonnnnd!
