Title: COLD IN JULY (2014)
Post by: Rev. Powell on June 11, 2014, 09:00:28 AM
A Texas frame-maker is terrified that the ex-convict father of the man he shot during a burglary will extract revenge on his family. This noirish and sometimes brutal thriller starts out looking like a CAPE FEAR rehash but takes a surprising turn.

*Excellent performances by Don Johnson, Michael C. Hall, and especially grizzled old Sam Shephard.
*This probably  would have been a minor classic if they script had bothered to resolve a couple of questionable plot points. I can't explain it without using spoilers, but it's left up to the audience to make up a motivation for a major event that drives the plot.
*There is a very disturbing event in this movie that is not shown in graphic detail but is still very shocking.
*It starts slow, turns into a mystery, then ends as a bloody revenge thriller. Worth seeing.
