I know I am not a parent but I suffered terrible abuse in high school until I struck back and almost killed a bully - no one messed with me after that. Abuse is abuse and cannot be disguised under the pretense of initiation and tradition, nor can it be condoned.
Sorry for the rant, but I would have killed these bastards with my bare hands if this young person was my kid. :hatred: :hatred:

yeah the whole thing about "we were preparing them for the rest of their school life" and "we didn't understand the consequences it would have" are rubbish. bullies do it for the sadistic power trip and they know it.
I was bullied a lot at secondary school. some guy used to take off his belt and whip me in the PE changing rooms. when I eventually told the teachers about this he got suspended, which of course made me the villain amongst his friends which lead to even more abuse
there was some other guy who used to come up to me in the playground and punch me in the face then run around shouting that he'd punched me in the face. cause I knew telling the teachers wasn't the best thing to do after the whipping thing, I decided to one day go up to him and punch him in his face. what happened? the little s**t went and told the teachers and I got put in detention for a week!
