Sounds good - I hope JJ does a good job - I also hope the Disney brand doesn't ruin anything...
Anyone else like the new title name?

As much as people hated the Abram's Star Trek I think Star Wars will be a better fit for him. Star Wars is more campy and light-hearted if anything.

So does this mean that we can actually fulfill Mel Brooks promise of Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money?
Honestly, I've only seen Episode 1 and part of Episode 2.
May miss this one.

Exactly.
Maybe it won't be as good as the original trilogy (there's a very high chance it won't), but it's gonna be an enjoyable, quality film for sure.

I'm just hoping it's better than the Star Wars prequels. But then again a stripper with necrosis is easier to watch than those movies.
While there have been a number of complaints about the title, people will complain about anything, I guess. I actually like it, or maybe it just grew on me. What I like about it, is that it is a dynamic title. "Awakens" is an action verb. Considering some of the other rumored suggestions for titles, this is probably about as good as it gets. Of course, we shall see what we shall see come December, 2015, when the film is released to theaters.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

No, I didn't read the books -
but I was wondering if this is Luke Skywalker above ^ years after Return of the Jedi?
If it's got sand, then it must be Abu Dhabi. I don't think there's that much sand in England, Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, nor Santa Monica. Maybe New Mexico has that much sand.
The typical "sound and fury signifying nothing" at imdb.com, but I am gob smacked by the teaser.
And forget the darn chainsaw, when I start cutting down trees, I'm getting a light saber like that..
Still, 13 months away from release, but I am more than thrilled to be one of those waiting to see it. Maybe I'll book a cruise to see it. 1 minute after midnight on the 1st day they release a film in the U.S., they show the same film on each of the cruise ships of the DCL. My mind can't grasp what that showing will be like.
I can't wait to see it!
I also like the new light saber idea... it looks as if it's 'alive with motion' if you look at it - unlike the old sabers that have that continuous light flow.

I'm ok with the new ideas 100% (because, remember - this is after Return of the Jedi)

And here is some more news for those who are interested.
"Looper's" Rian Johnson for "Episode VIII"
and "Chronicle's" Josh Trank for "Episode IX."
or . . . OR . . .?
If Johnson directs both "Episode VIII" and "Episode IX," then Trank does a stand alone film featuring one of the characters from the TOS, as an young man. Which one? The most likely so far is Han Solo as an young man. How young? In his 20's. Though, there is also the talk of the director doing a stand alone film of Yoda, as an young whatever Yoda is? Yoda was young once?!
More news as it becomes available.
And it already has, 13 months out, an unofficial box office gross of $2 billion or $2,000,000,000, when all is said and done. Of course, if it makes less than $2 billion, there will be some people who say the film is a flop.

It's a Sith robe, so probably not. Though I suppose he could have fallen.
By the way, Kevin, they've been tossing around the idea of a Boba Fett movie for years. Maybe that'll happen.
in the news today...
Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Teaser Becoming Most Viewed Trailer Of All Time
(http://www.myfacewhen.net/uploads/6402-vegeta-over-9000.gif)
IT'S OVER 63 million!
Thanks Jim,
I've been reading about that, people (fans) are leaning more towards a 'DarthVader follower'.
This does look rather tasty!
The sheer excitement in Star Wars fandom for any new SW movie is quite incredible, but many failed to live up to the expectations. When Star Wars was released, there had not been anything quite like it, and it has inspired generations of people ever since. The problem, I think, is that when Star Wars was seen for the first time, there WAS nothing like it, and nothing could compare. A lot of people are still gauging the expectations of later films against the emotional impact of their first viewing of the original, and it's never going to live up to that first experience.
I liken it a little to The Matrix. When that movie came out, nothing else like it had been done, not in that way. While elements of story and action had been done before, nothing had pulled them together into such a visually and emotionally compelling package. Much of what was seen had never been done before in a movie, let alone a single movie. Later Matrix movies not only had to live up to that first experience, but also had to contend with being a 'known factor'. Now that you knew what to expect, the movies that followed could not rely on that 'freshness' for impact.
Star Wars was the same. The first time you saw it, it was like nothing you'd ever seen before. Later movies could not capitalize on that freshness factor, because you already knew what to expect.
Am I the only one who doesn't absolutely hate the crossguard on that lightsaber?
I think it's awesome... looks like a crusader sword.

I also like the motion (fizz) to the light flow.

You are not the only one who doesn't absolutely hate it, and now that I see it up close and personal I like it even better. Of course, though, there have been complaints about the way it looks.
And that may actually a peak of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, as there is a rumor going around that in this film he does turn to the dark side, at least temporarily.
And there is also a rumor out that after this film is released to theaters, Princess Leia will officially become a Disney Princess. Which means she will be the 1st Princess from somewhere other than Earth, and she will be the 1st Princess who was a live action character instead of the typical animation character.
From my research (on the web)
Luke does turn to the dark side. But then gets saved by Leia...
Luke turns back and makes a Jedi academy were he trains future Jedi.
Now, I'm not so sure to who that Sith is... maybe a dark side secret apprentice?
Anyway - I can't wait to see it! I hope JJ does a great job!
There are total spoilers out there now. I read a couple big ones unmarked. Really blows.
Hate the internet sometimes.
