Title: Crappie (2015)
Post by: Trevor on March 09, 2015, 02:12:23 AM
One film which I will not be seeing despite my love of South African made films - the oldest film industry in Africa and one of the oldest in the world next to England, France, Australia and India.

I actually walked out of District 9 when I realized what I was watching was nothing more than a thinly disguised anti-South African diatribe from a born South African who must have had a really crappy childhood here.

I am so sorry that you hate your birth country by putting our beautiful flag on the shoulder of a horrible looking reject robot: blecch  :tongueout:. And now you are going to tackle Alien too? Leave it alone, please!

The reviews seem to be pretty bad so I doubt you're missing much Trevor.  I never saw District 9 either.

One of my favorite review sites put it thusly:  "Do you think wiggers are funny?  Then you'll love Chappie.  Otherwise, see something else."

What I can't stand is seeing my flag on Chappie's right shoulder: blecch.  :tongueout:

Incidentally, "Chappies" is a brand of South African chewing gum.

When I first saw the "Chappie" trailers, I thought it looked like a violent reboot of "Short Circuit."  :teddyr:

Looks like a rip-off of Japanese anime to me....

Two trailer exist.  The first portrays the movie as a sensitive 'innocent AI learns about itself and human conflict' movie.  The other is of a slamming action movie.  I'm guessing the first is more accurate.

Does anyone think that Chappie's head looks like a Masamune Shirow Ghost in the Shell type of design?

It looked painfully generic to me. Innocent robot AI in world of danger and hatred.
Big f**kin' whoop.

I was on the fence about whether or not I was going to see this in theaters.  Sounds like I could skip it.

And thus another unseen movie dies by the hand of the Badmovies forum brethren, hahaha.   :teddyr:

I thought it was another sequel to IRON EAGLE.  Then I realized Louis Gossett, Jr. wasn't in the trailers.  Plus, he spelled his name "Chappy."

I guess I'm the only one who liked the robots then.
