Who said they were mistakes? I can see a lot of these being deliberately done, so that the companies that make them can get around paying the actual companies a rights' fee for use of the name.
I can also see why the said companies are pressuring the governments of the said countries where these products are made to go after such companies for copyright and trademark and other violations. These may seem like small potatoes in the scheme of things, but the said companies and others are actually getting ripped off by millions of dollars by these knockoffs. I can also see confusion on the part of consumers, who knowingly or unknowingly, are buying these knockoffs in the expectation of getting the original product. And if these knockoffs are of lower quality, and consumers actually confuse the lower quality knockoff with the superior original product, then you probably have one unhappy consumer, which affects the next purchase of the original product.

A legal C.Y.A. makes sense...which makes me think the 'not quite alert' almost deserve getting the raw deal. Almost. But shysters tend to prey on the weak minded...kinda like Sith Lords.
