I love talking movies, good or bad. I jump up and down and shriek in laughter (forgive my hyperbole) watching a terrifically bad movie. That's how I found this place. I think I was looking for people like me. People who like bad movies.
Are internet forums dying? Is this forum dying?
I was a dinosaur when I came here. I still do not carry a phone or any kind of device. I was given some kind of thingee for Xmas that I have not touched since. I was whipped for about an hour to use it learn it integrate it... not my kinda toy. I took a Xanax.
:bouncegiggle:
I like to read and write and talk, but I sure as hell don't want to text. And long before the internet I had grown weary of talking on the phone. Then, I did it for a living. I want to look something up? I can't go to my desktop?
I know, I've said it before.
I am... a dinosaur.
I got my first cell phone in 2001. It was one of those clumsy things with a short fat antenna. It had a game on it called "Snakes" I think, which was a good time waster while waiting on the bus to bring me back home from work. I had it for about 2 or 3 years but then sort of lost interest in the phone.
Bought a Samsung Galaxy S III in 2012 but I'm not like spending all day playing around with it. I use it mostly for texting or calling my sisters. Also, I'm not app crazy and have never played any kind of games on my cell. All the apps that came with the phone (can't be deleted) are useless to me, plus I would never ever actually pay money to buy an app no matter how cheap. I do use two free apps sometimes (flashlight and local bus schedule).
I love to take pictures with my cell, though, or to check on Facebook during my lunch break at work. It is also very convenient when stuck in the middle of nowhere and I need to call a cab, which happened a few times. Other than that I got some helpful use out of the included GPS. I also have a few songs on my phone, but nowhere near as many as most people I know have (thousands).
If anything, I "under-use" my cell compared to others but I think it is good to have one in these days and ages.
Were two of a kind,my freind.
Hell-I dont even own a home phone anymore.
I'm at my job-at the factory-we go on break at ten oclock-I go outside to the f**king designated smoking area-(that alone p**ses me off-back in the day you could smoke any f**king place you wanted) and all this people are on f**king phones-they will poke at it and laugh-your surronded by morons who are so out of touch with the real world-they live on their f**king phones. Me and old boy Tom-we look at each other and shrug-what the f**k?
I will NEVER own a cell phone-s**t-whenever I hear a house phone ring I pick it up and throw it on the floor-I dont wanna talk to most f**kers who call me onna phone-If I did-Ill write you a f**king letter.
Sorry about the use of the "F" word-but-eh-I just dont give a f**k.
By the way ,John-ya need to give me a call-I promise-I wont throw the phone on the floor.
OK-ya got me on a roll-
I'm on this thing called TUMBLR-where ya post pictures-Its a photo blog-I post pics of old horror films-trying to educate the mindless masses about when films were good-and BAD!
And all I see is teenage punks posting porn-like I dont know what a naked girl looks like-like I wanna see a big dick in my face-or a wide open p***y.
I know what sex is-If I want to jerk off-I will-but not when Im on the computer and I sure dont wanna advertise it to the world.
Morons who post porn on their sites are likely not getting laid-and they wont if they act so desperate.
On another note-
I get questioned about why I post on Tumblr-"yer an old man!"
Oh-LMFAO,hash tag suck my dick,OMG,nah nah nah-
f**k YOU! Punk!
Oh by the way-what the f**k does "hash tag" mean?-is it related to pot-like hash? or corn beef?If its pot-or corn beef-Im all for it!
I let my cell phone expire a couple weeks ago. Had one of those Trac Phones where you buy three months worth of minutes or whatever at a time. Know how many minutes I used? Zero. I just had it in case my car broke down or something, but since I never took it with me it seemed rather pointless. Besides I live in Minnesota - pull over and open your hood and every third person driving by will stop and ask if you need help. That's the way people have done it ever since the Model A came out in 1927 and it works just fine.
I dunno, I watch movies on my TV, listen to music on my stereo, play video games on my computer, and the once a week or so when I want to make a call I use the phone in the kitchen.
And no,John-this forum is not dying.
I think of this forum as the old Graveyard Examiner in Famous Monsters magazine-a place where fans of like mind can get together without being called weirdos by the general public.
I have noticed a lot of forums (fora?) of all kinds seem moribund. NOT this one!
No cell phone here. My kids have them. Hubby has one - to contact the kids by text.
We have a landline - and still not touch-tone!
A stereo turntable and vinyl for music. Do have a growing collection of cd's.
A TV for movies etc.
Use a desktop computer - the kids have laptops for school (university)
No GPS of any kind. Oh well. (I am a Scout Leader. )
And it appears it is a lot like Minnesota here still: people stop and make sure you don't need help if you are pulled over on the roads.
Shrug: dinosaur - maybe. Just don't see the sense in spending hard-earned money on things and services I do not need. I figure people who deride me for it are being defensive about their spending choices. Not my problem.
eta: I also have thousands of books. Real books. Bookcases in every room.

Yeah, we just call eacg other weirdos and I don't think it's ever meant as anything other than sarcastic.
I use my phone and my tablet for surfing the net mainly because kids wife and kids are in the computer. So I like my little toys.
As far as the forum dying , I don't think it's happening. I think forums in general may be less popular than myfacebookspace or whatever the new social media is today. But we have a community here and I don't see that going away.
. . . Unless Andrew starts posting thing to social media then I might have to get a new account.
Thank you all for responding. I'm on here alone again and it isn't late at all.
This forum is my home and the special peeps here are my family.
The internet of things changes constantly.
I don't have FB but I have twitter. I like it but it's essentially a perpetual contest for making up sentences. It's helped my writing but it's by definition very superficial. You can't say much in 140 characters. It's challenging though I enjoy it.
I still use badmovies.org though. If I didn't I wouldn't come. movies are a serious business. I don't know how they decided that 90 minutes was the ideal length or why I forget the fact that it's all made up and the people are actually acting students but I do. you can't just devote one or two tweets a week to it.
This is especially true after netflix stabbed movie fans in the back. This is something that hasn't gotten nearly enough attention, particularly as Netflix's stock price goes into the stratosphere. Their reviews used to be like Amazon: you could find someone you liked and whose tastes you understood and follow them. For reasons I will never understand they took that away and anonymized all the reviews. it's pretty much useless now. I had almost 1,000 reviews before I haven't written one since because I don't see the point, there's no community I'm not helping anybody why waste my time.
I have a cell phone but rarely use it. If I use it at all, it's for texts as I hate talking on the phone in general. I've a home line, but I have the cell in case the power or some such goes out and I need to call whomever.
Is this place dying? Not sure. Looks like I'm the only one on right now.
I always stop here. Might not post, but I log-in pretty much every day.

I drop by pretty much daily. There are days and times that are slower. I find weekends and early mornings to be quieter around here. Things tend to pick up much later in the evening. Generally.
My health is not so good-I stop in on the weekends-but Im either at my job or sleeping-its not because I dont want to-Im just so tired as of late....Im getting older than I am. :bluesad:
Im thinking of going on SSI-It really is a struggle day to day just to walk sometimes.
Sorry to hear that, RC.
I hope it all works out for you.

I noticed. I try to be here later in the evening but things don't work out so well.
I have a cell phone that I got back in 09, it's a flip phone. the only things wrong with it is the volume to raise it is broken and the touch screen doesn't work. Believe it or not, my phone is the most reliable of the phones my family has, since it still is running without having replaced a part.
I got rid of Facebook and got Twitter instead, the main deal breaker with FB is that after three weeks of not using it, I felt like that just about everybody that uses it everyday to post stuff are jerks.
Is this place dying? If it was, we would have been notified.
I don't think this place is dying either, but it could use a little fresh blood.
Not sure if it is just a phase but at times there seems to be more music video posts than actual posts about (bad) movies.
Maybe Andrew should change the name to 'bad'music.org or something
This forum has been my primary internet home since 1997. I read it several times a day and post 2 - 3 times a day.
As for cell phones, love'em. I talk to my friends constantly, I text pictures of stuff I have found, and I even use it to surf the
web sometimes, although I still prefer this desktop for that. As long as I'm around this place will always have some traffic.

It is not quite that bad yet, Ronny. I showed my youngest the original "
Night of the Living Dead" when he was 9 or 10. He was sceptical about b&w, but he watched the whole thing and his verdict was "Not bad". Which coming from him is high praise. Then a week or two ago, I had him watch "
Arsenic and Old Lace" with me and he was blown away by the humour: kept saying "I didn't know they would make jokes like that back then!" (he thought black humour was a new invention? Hmmm. Another gap in his cultural education I must attend to!) He loves
Casablanca, too, among others. He's 17 now and is telling me that he is finding more and more of his friends know about the obscure stuff I inflict upon him in terms of media. And he does exceptionally well on the school quiz team.

My kids grew up with me watching old films as well-they know Lugosi-(of course) Karloff-Lon Chaney. The original FRANKENSTEIN made Jed cry when he was 6-I asked him-why are you crying-he told me because it was so sad that they treated hin so badly.
That speaks to the power of these older films-you dont need stuff blowing up and expensive special effects-my stepson JIm said -when I played WHITE ZOMBIE for him when he was in a garage punk band when he was 16-"thats the best movie I've ever seen".
So-yeh-I dont think these films will ever die-and it will always have a fan base-but us "Monster Kids"-those who grew up with Shock Theater and Creature Feature,Famous Monsters of Filmland-Chiller Theater-are getting older-and its just not going to ever be the same.

Holy crap! That's what I call old school.
As far as the site dying the numbers would say yes. But I think the core community here is too strong for that to happen. New blood will show up eventually.
To many, I'm a complete dinosaur. I have no cell phone and no interest in owning one. I don't feel the need to be doing anything while waiting and sometimes actually enjoy just watching what other people are doing or looking outside. If I get really bored, I can always bring a book or grab a magazine. I feel little desire to be constantly connected in/with the world. I'm on Facebook and Twitter but only sporadically. Bad movie fans will exist I suspect for many generations to come though as the movies are still widely available, many of them are just plain fun to watch. Now there might be a newer breed of fans who like some more modern era bad movie stuff that doesn't appeal as much to us dinosaurs but eh, hopefully they'll discover on here and through Andrew's many entertaining reviews about all the great classic bad and B-movie films as well. Part of me suspects I'd be right at home in some dark, dreary castle/gothic house in the middle of nowhere...but that's just me...and I like weird stuff, I've always like weird stuff. Comics, old movies, old TV shows, cartoons.
About six or seven weeks ago my wife discovered she was pregnant with our first child. Our first conversation about this was about names. The second one was about what horror films I'd be able to show the baby (we both agreed Hammer and the classic B/W universal ones). While I wouldn't try and force anyone to be a fan of old &/or bad movies I do plan at least making them aware they exist. I was a bit shocked a few years back when I discovered that one of the younger guys working under me had never heard of Errol Flynn. Mind you, I did (deliberately) get my younger brother to listen to the same music as me by expressly forbidding him to listen to any of my albums.
I feel good here :D
I do own a phone, for years it was the Nokia 3310 and I still think it is one of the best technological gadget ever. Now I have a Nexus 5, I arrived at least 13 years late than the first "no keyboard phone" and only now I find it ok. Just ok. I admit however that having maps, and chats is nice. Still I don't really understand people who stare at their phone all the time...
I just have g+ and linkedin that I hardly ever use. I have an old style blog but I just have few technical posts on it, I tried to share one (I think interesting) on g+ but the group moderator deleted the message without any explanation.
On the other hand, I like friends, (B)movies, and beer... so I am happy.
Besides I really like this website, today lots of website are so overcomplex with menus, bars, thingies... This one does one thing and does it well. As it should be.
I'm an old timer here, even though I don't post all that much. I visit the forum daily, mostly reading the Bad Movies section and the Off Topic section. I've never been a prolific poster (I could likely drop off the site and few if any would notice), but I do enjoy seeing what you guys have to say. I'd like the opportunity to meet a few of you in person, as unlikely as that is since I don't travel much and am too far away from other bad movie fans for any of that nonsense. At any rate, I've seen times when things got really slow around here and talk turned to the "is this site dying?!?" variety, but, in my limited experience, this site is unusually cohesive, with enough core members who don't do any other social media, and so stands a very good chance of continuing indefinitely, as long as Andrew wants to keep up the effort of maintaining the site.
To be brutally honest: if this site died, part of me would die too.
I'm not going anywhere. My movie watching has dropped off with my loss of free time post-family. But I still catch the odd film, and love hearing whats going on with all my friends here.

I saw the original NotLD around 9 years old as well. In fact, I saw it on the show
MonsterVision that was on TNT hosted by Joe Bob Briggs back in the early 90s...1993 or so. Good times. :bouncegiggle:
I saw NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD around 1975 or so... in a "late night" ABC-TV broadcast that probably started 11:30pm. When there were the TV broadcasts in the movie, a small disclaimer appeared on screen... ah, the old days. Man that first viewing ended around 1 am. It scared the sh!t out of me.
However it is true that it is quite some time there are no updates...
Random thought for TODAY: blahblahblahblahblah.
JUKEBOX (and I'm here alone).
As long as the SYFY Channel exists, there will be bad movies.
I have a daily run of 'see what's up's.' This is one of them.
I like youse guys, and it's fun to see what's going on.
I have fun with the captions, for example. It's a good place to see ya'll take a crack at 'riffing' on an image. You do keep me entertained!
I mean, just look at the 'cat/beer' gags we've worked in since Sprite got that started.
And the opinions are kept to a (mostly) civil state. I like that. If it changed...well, I hope it don't!
And I do understand Andrew's life has 'higher priority targets', so to speak.
I'll be here as often as I can, and I hope you do too.

I don't think it's dying but there are so many places to go... I spend a good portion of my time at a MTG messageboard talking about Magic the Gathering (when I don't want to think of politics/work/writing)...
Then I used to spend a good deal amount of my time on Wattpad messageboards (talking about writing, stories ideas and helping those that are looking for help) I've been there for almost 4 years but I'm not liking the changes in wattpad (and I'm starting to get myself more focused on posting stories on Amazon)
This place is kind of fun. I like popping in and helping a person looking for a story.
As for movie watching in general - I had not been really interested in watching movies as I used to be, partly because I have a 6 year old and I'm limited to see the stuff (for her sake) and when I do get to watch some tv it's 10:00 and I'm ready to fall asleep. But it's not all her fault... Movies had been sucking lately. I saw the new Mad Max movie in the show and enjoyed it; but I saw like 15 minutes of move trailers from the new terminator movie to Jurassic Park and they don't seemed interesting to me. It sounds odd but the new Mad Max movie was the first movie in almost 10 years that I wanted to SEE in the show.
It's not really the messageboard... movies had been lacking that awesomeness that we enjoyed to talk about...
I divide my time between this site, FB, and an artifact forum called Arrowheadology.com
I rarely turn off my old desktop (the fifth one I'm in front of now). No one's here now, I often am here and not here.

This place basically runs itself for the time being. The domain is active until June 2017. My guess is Andrew will renew it once it's time is up. It will be fine.
Like the good Rev says-I'll start writing reviews if I have too-I'm no Andrew-but I can write-and Rev does great Reviews on his website! We can do it! Like the Old Our Gang shows! Lets put on a show!
I'm actually kinda sober this morn-I don't come here as much as I usta-but I love this place.
Oh-buy the way-Happy Sunday!

Weird pop ups come up now and talk at me... it only happens when I come here.

I was going to say that NEVER happens to me here, but then I logged in and it did! However, that's been happening to me at other websites too. I think the internet pestering software is just getting a little bit ahead now. Time to go back to periodicals and letter writing !
No popups for me yet. I switched to UBlock Origin and it works pretty good.
We need to get in touch with Andrew and discuss the future of this website. I'll send him a message and ask him to join us here.
Message sent

Good luck; we've tried before with no response. He is aware of what's going on, but he's not prioritizing this site in his life, which is of course his right.

Then we ALL need to message him to let him know we are serious.
When pressed politely, I doubt that he would object. This site is important to a lot of people, myself included, and I don't want to see it abandoned.

Amen to that
I just sent Andrew an email so I will report if he replies.
About the reviews: I've been planning a few so I will get writing as soon as possible.
I have some interest in buying the site and keeping it up if Andrew decides to abandon it.
Websites can exist for a long time w/o updates. Just look at Excite.
Even w/ popups, this place is better off than StompTokyo; the link to their reviews is broken. You can only find them w/a link from another site, like IMDb. Here's a link to 'em, if you don't want to wander around IMDb trying to find a link: http://www.stomptokyo.com/genre-index.html (http://www.stomptokyo.com/genre-index.html)
And StompTokyo's better off then KiddieMatinee.com, which is gone. Here's a link to an archived version: https://web-beta.archive.org/web/20060615000000*/http://kiddiematinee.com (https://web-beta.archive.org/web/20060615000000*/http://kiddiematinee.com)
And KiddieMatinee's better off than ColdFusionVider Reviews, which is just plain-old gone. :bluesad:
In short, we could be worse off.
