Yeah, I was just about to post about this, too. Very sad news, although he lived a long life and has left us a great legacy. I first saw him in The Avengers, and also in the original Battlestar Galactica. Hearing his voice narrate in the beginning of Battlestar always gave me a thrill. I'm saddened by the passing of these old school British actors like Christopher Lee and now Patrick MacNee.
:bluesad: Lost yet another hero, R.I.P. Patrick MacNee (Part of me always wished I could be just like John Steed).
Used to see him out hillwalking on Arran (a small island near where I grew up) back in the 80s. Loved seeing him in things like The Avengers, The Howling and Battlestar Galactica (and was a little bit disappointed when I didn't see him in the remake to be honest).
The first show I saw him in was The New Avengers. Just a wonderful, wonderful actor. He lived a very long and very full life and left the world a richer place for his presence.
RIP Steed.

I watched the original Avengers on TV with my Dad at an impressionable age: part of me wishes/expects all 'my' men to be a bit like John Steed. It's a tall order, but...
sigh!
That's a bummer. "The Avengers" was a little before my time, so as a kid I knew him from his appearances on the original "Battlestar Galactica" TV series. He also provided the voice of the Cylons' Imperious Leader on B.S.G., and recited the opening narration ("There are those who believe that life out here... began out there") that kicked off each episode:

Later I recognized him as Sir Denis Eton-Hogg, president of Polymer Records, in "This Is Spinal Tap" and as one of Roger Moore's agency contacts in "A View to a Kill."
