Elizabeth II just became the longest serving monarch (http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-34177107) in British history.
QuoteThe Queen has thanked well-wishers at home and overseas for their "touching messages of kindness" as she becomes Britain's longest-reigning monarch.
Speaking in the Scottish Borders, the 89-year-old monarch said the title was "not one to which I have ever aspired".
At about 17:30 BST the Queen will have reigned for 23,226 days, 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes - 63 years and seven months.
David Cameron said the service she had given was "truly humbling".
Congrats your Majesty.
And also God save the Queen.
Holy Cow... and I thought she was around from the 1500s...
I hope she lives for another 80 years :)

Lol. I could see Charles if that was the case..."Come on mumsie and die already. I've been waiting over 100 years for the throne!"
Somewhere Queen Victoria is in a bad mood.

Only eight more years to knock off Louis XIV as all-time European champion!
And three more years after that to beat Ramses II for the world record!
GO TEAM ELIZABETH!!!!

I have an aunt that died last Saturday at 63 years of age. When my aunt was born Elizabeth was not quite two months into her reign. Kind of puts it in perspective.
We have footage of the young Princess Elizabeth coming to South Africa in 1947 with her parents and sister: quite something to see her running around the deck of the ship with sailors playfully chasing her. :teddyr:
I think she's just surviving based purely on the collective will of everyone not wanting Charles to take the throne.
And she ain't done yet!
Despite "Charles III" with Tim Piggott-Smith in the title role coming to Broadway November 1 of this year, we'll most likely never see it happen, as, despite the passage of time, there are still hard feelings out there about Diana's divorce. Anyway, what do you do with Camilla? Anyway, there's a better candidate if you skip a generation and make Prince William, who has a wife and 2 children--a boy and a girl, the next reigning monarch.

Not to mention the conspiracy theories that Princess Diana was murdered: I have always believed that her tragic car crash wasn't just that.

And Charles might not (http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2005/dec/27/monarchy.michaelwhite) take the name Charles III due to negative connotations with the name Charles. It's been suggested he might take the name George VII after his Grandfather.
Actually, Charles II was a very popular monarch . . . aka "The Playboy King" or "The Merrie Monarch."

There's also a bit of sensitivity to using Charles III since it was the name of the Jacobite pretender Bonnie Prince Charlie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Edward_Stuart)

Considering how long her mother lived, I'd say there's a decent shot of her taking it.
