Title: RIP Lemmy of Motorhead
Post by: Archivist on December 28, 2015, 09:43:41 PM
World rock legend, lead singer and bassist of Motorhead, Lemmy, passed away at 70 years old.

Motorhead was my first real introduction to the world of metal, with Ace of Spades being the blazing anthem of my early teenage years.  The Motorhead compilation No Remorse was the first heavy metal album I ever bought.

Lemmy passed away after a very aggressive cancer claimed him within days of diagnosis.

Rock on, metal warrior.

Very bummed. I was just thinking the other day that I need to pick up Motorhead's newest album (Bad Magic).

It's a slow day @ work so I was able to bash out a quick blog about Lemmy's passing. I hope I did the man justice. Let me know what y'all think:

Not much of a fan, but I didn't realize until reading his obituary that he was in Hawkwind. That's kind of cool, and like something out of SPINAL TAP.

Also he was the narrator in TROMEO AND JULIET, so I'll always have a soft spot for him for that reason.

@FatFreddysCat - excellent blog post about Lemmy.  It's interesting that your first encounter with Lemmy and Motorhead was via The Young Ones, because that was mine, as well.  I'm in Australia, not America, though.

Going to miss that bass playing fiend.

Thanx. I'm fairly sure that I'd heard of Motorhead prior to their "Young Ones" airing but that was the first time I'd actually seen/heard what they looked/sounded like.

...needless to say, I was terrified and fascinated by them in equal measure, and had to learn more about them immediately. :D

Death's inevitable.  But a guy like Lemmy seemed like he'd make it to 94 or something and be all "I ate a plate of bacon for breakfast and brushed my teeth with vodka."

I'm really bummed though.

Motorhead was the first band I went to see live (back in '92 for the 1916 album). Totally awesome night and I've lost track of how many times I'd been to see them live since. When I heard Lemmy was dead though I can't say I felt sad about it. He lived life his way, never bothered trying to sober up and doing pretty much what he wanted. Instead I spent the day listening to my Motorhead vinyls and having a bottle of JD celebrating his life. Got to meet him a few times and even shook his hand, although for some reason I never asked him for an autograph.

Congratulations on a live well lived sir.
