Just a little game I thought we could play. You guess which movies had the highest U.S. domestic box office grosses---adjusted for inflation. I'll tell you whether your guess is in the top 10 or not. The game is complete when we've named all 10. No cheating--you're on the honor system!
Hint: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS in currently #11 and will almost certainly make it into the top 10 before it finishes its run.
The all-time world list looks quite different, even though it's still all American movies.

Surprisingly, AVATAR is only #15 in the US all-time, although it's #1 in the world rankings.
Easy Rider?
I have a strong feeling Titanic is up there.
EASY RIDER: no.

Yeah, CK was pretty much a flop when it was released.
I'll take a shot in the dark and say A New Hope.
Definitely. STAR WARS: EPISODE IV, A NEW HOPE surely ought to be up there.

I thought that was a good guess, but it's only #74. You're on the right track though.
OK, how about LOTR: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING?
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Star Wars IV A New Hope
Beverly Hills Cop
Ghostbusters
Jaws
the masses -

.Im hoping KING KONG (1933) or BLOOD FREAK(1972).....
http://youtu.be/xVJDDK05f0I (http://youtu.be/xVJDDK05f0I)
Considering that New Hope's success was kind of a surprise at the time I wonder if The Empire Strikes Back is also on there.
I seem to remember both The Avengers & Jurassic World breaking records, so I'll guess them.

I think there has to be at least one animated film so.........Snow White?
FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING is #79.
BEVERLY HILLS COP is #43.
GHOSTBUSTERS is #34.
THE AVENGERS is #39.
JURASSIC WORLD is #24.
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is #21.
EMPIRE STRIKE BACK is #13.
I'm surprised KING KONG isn't in the top 200. Really surprised no BLOOD FREAK!
JAWS and SNOW WHITE are correct!
1. Gone with the Wind (1939)
2. Star Wars (1977)
3. ?
4. ?
5. Titanic (1997)
6. ?
7. Jaws (1975)

10. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) (the new Star Wars will pass this soon)
E.T.?
The Phantom Menace?

7. Jaws (1975)

Manos: Hands of Fate HAS to be on that list. If it made any money at all, it had to be mostly profit.
I'll just let myself out.
MARY POPPINS?
MY FAIR LADY?
THE SOUND OF MUSIC?
MARY POPPINS is #27.
MY FAIR LADY is #58.
But SOUND OF MUSIC is #3.
1. Gone with the Wind (1939)
2. Star Wars (1977)
3. Sound of Music (1965)
4. E.T. (1982)

10. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
SPIDERMAN or maybe THE AVENGERS?
2002's SPIDER-MAN was #38 and someone already guessed THE AVENGERS (and was wrong).
The Godfather?
The Godfather Part 2?
GODFATHER was #25 and the sequel did not make the top 200.
Terminator 2?
the GODFATHER,I reckon...maybe JAWS as well.

I did! I DID!
Then I forgot what I read-because I was kinda high-!
Ok! Im gonna guess the LION KING,and the JAZZ SINGER-I can understand why the JAZZ SINGER-it was the fist big time talkie-the LION KING_because all the movies I hate are on the top ten,Ill betcha. But the Jazz Singer aint on it because folks were poor.
Okay, let's get older here. I remember records being broken by The Exorcist in its day. Not sure if that translates to this late day or not.

The EXORCIST-good one.
Im thinking-I dunno-cuz I hate it-the SOUND OF MUSIC.
Maybe f**kin ET =ugh!
RC, E.T. and THE SOUND OF MUSIC are right, but they were already guessed. LION KING is a good guess (it's #19). JAZZ SINGER did not make the top 200.
And Java gets one of the final three with THE EXORCIST. It's #9.
1. Gone with the Wind (1939)
2. Star Wars (1977)
3. Sound of Music (1965)
4. E.T. (1982)

No winners but BEN-HUR is closest of those (#14), and you're right to think about epics for the last two spots...
I would imagine Forrest Gump, Godzilla, Avatar, Titanic, and that one movie that I don't want to talk about (bleck) is probably on there.
How about The Ten Commandments (1956)?
Some of Gene's were already guessed but GUMP was #26 and there was no GODZILLA in the top 200.
Newt is correct with THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, leaving only one left to go...
1. Gone with the Wind (1939)
2. Star Wars (1977)
3. Sound of Music (1965)
4. E.T. (1982)
5. Titanic (1997)
6. The Ten Commandments (1956)
7. Jaws (1975)

No. If you're thinking of the recent S&M movie it's not in the top 200.
#8 just has to be Nukie
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD or maybe IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE?
Wait, I forgot about Frozen! That was a huge hit too.
Gladiator or Braveheart? Maybe...
Pulp Fiction?
King Kong? Doctor Zhivago? Bambi? 2001 Space Odyssey?
I googled the list to see what 8 was and I'm surprised.
I'd second Gladiator and suggest Saving Private Ryan.

I did the same, had the same reaction, but I love that movie. Watched it when I was maybe 13 and was hooked to the TV for the whole time it took to broadcast it. What an ending!
The list is completed! Gene Worm was correct with DR. ZHIVAGO.
1. Gone with the Wind (1939)
2. Star Wars (1977)
3. Sound of Music (1965)
4. E.T. (1982)
5. Titanic (1997)

7. Jaws (1975)
8. Dr. Zhivago (1965)
9. The Exorcist (1973)
10. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
I know you guys could do it!
As I said before, the international list is very different and very biased towards recent movies. I think that must be due to the China market opening up only recently.

I've seen all these except Sound of Music, 10 Commandments, Titanic and Dr. Zhivago. I'm assuming I saw E.T. and Snow White when I was a kid.
I've seen 7 of them in full and I've seen parts of the other 3.
I`ve seen 8 (not Sound of Music & the doctor), but none in the movie theaters.
... so I did nothing for this list...
I have seen them all (for once!).
I've seen all of them except "Titanic". I don't see that changing, ever.
