My local store has "Oblivion" and "Oblivion 2: Backlash" I've been tempted to rent them; any comments on them
One thing that worried my was an IMDB comment: "If you enjoy this try Trancers 4 and 5. It is in the same vein..."
I've *seen* Trancers 4 and 5....
Meanwhile, this week, I have "Shadow Warriors" up to bat and "Dark Planet" on deck
Avoid Oblivion and Oblivion 2!!! They suck royally!!! Trancers 4 and 5 look like great movies compared to this Oblivion crap!!! ugh!!!
Much like Trancers 4/5, Oblivion/Backlash is really one movie cut in half. It's cute in a really cheesy way. It's funny seeing George "Sulu" Takei in a comedy role and Musetta Vander is really into her role as the Betty Page-looking, whip wielding bad girl, Lash. Julie Newmar is also included as "Miss Kitty".
The closest thing I can compair this movie to would be a live action version of the Bravestar cartoon.
I liked 'em both. Definitely cheesy, tongue-in-cheek. "Space Westerns" I guess is the genre. I stopped watching the Trancer series after 2 or 3. They got too painful. Always good to see Musetta Vander, but they are Charles Band written. And you've even got Isaac Hayes in them.
Very cheesy, basically westerns, but set on an alien planet with aliens and andriods.
It's a nifty little idea, though the execution lacks horribly. (Wonder why there are ALLLLLL those comic and Star Trek in-jokes? Peter David wrote the script. Methinks he was bored and trying to keep himself interested.)

OK, I watched "Oblivion" and I'm halfway through "Oblivion 2" and I must say I really enjoy them. They are pretty stupid in a way but also pretty funny. George Takai as the totally useless Doc Valentine with all the Star Trek jokes seems to take it in good stride. And "Lurch" as the undertaker, Gaunt, has some great lines.
It's a bit akward, like it's got a basic premise but has not idea where to take it and seems to lurch along trying to go several directions at once or changing it's mind, but it's a fun way to spend a few hours
